Mitchell Turner commits to Ole Miss! So we lose another top guy . I get the small class and the money . But if we are taking a small class than why can’t we spend at all!!

Payroll already tied up in what we think will be back in 2027 to some degree. Especially with the new eligibility rules, we’re probably going to have several seniors return.

They have to retain the 2024/2025/2026 classes that have had a very high retention rate compared other programs.

What good would it do to sign Mitchell Turner then turn around and lose Nolan Wilson and Jireh Edwards bc other teams offer them substantially more?

2010 was a similar “4th class, 3rd full class” deal and I remember it being small and not as highly thought of by pundits.

Of course, I think that class had some real dogs in it was still top 10.

Yeah I mean this is just roster management stuff. If you like the guys you have with 2+ years of eligibility left you're not shopping for their replacements until the next cycle because you're not keeping both for more than 1 season.

It's stupid, we all hate what it has become, but that's just how it is now.

I understand what you’re saying about retention and to a certain extent, it makes sense but we have to have at least some good players signed out of HS, otherwise in a couple of years we have zero depth.

I hate to see us whiff on literally every good player out there other than Haven and Seaborn. Yes, I understand there’s not going to be a big signing class but holy cow, this is a weak, weak class.

I hope this gamble works out.

There was no doubt where he was going once he got the Bama offer.

Alabama is still a top 25 team so in a 12-team playoff era, that is sufficient to say they’re a title contender.

However, I think they’re a team that could be 10-2 or 8-4 depending on the maturity and progression of underclassmen. The schedule has a 4-game stretch where they’re going to need peak focus to go .500 or better. Also, a bit of luck for that stretch to not injure a critical player in an era where no one has the luxury of depth.

Alabama found a groove last year but 2-3 olé blocks from our tackles in the 2025 hell run broke Ty Simpson and our fortunes dwindled.

I hope you’re right but there are several big question marks with this team. Can the O line improve? (I think they’ll be a good bit better).

Can Keelon Russell grow up fast out there?

Can the defense be more stout vs the run?

I believe our offenses inability to run led to a lack of run game defense late in some ball games.

That doesn't take into account how well you filled your needs across the board.

No, but it illustrates that we have a pretty significant backlog of talent. The closest thing to a salary "cap" right now is the natural limitation of playing time, so unless you have enough money to just throw massive amounts of cash at guys who are probably never even going to play for you there's just no way to stack talent in every single high school and portal class. Eventually you have to trust your own evals.

We're also very young and the teams buying the best upperclassmen every year have advantages with experience, age and probably strength.

No but it points out that there is plenty of talent at Bama and much of it has come from the recruiting of KD. It also proves the staff is not trying to “ build with 3 stars” narrative that some on here suggest. Nobody will ever be Saban . We are very fortunate as Bama fans to have had two of the greatest coaches ever for as long as we did . It just baffles me why some can’t get behind a good coach who seems to really like it here at Bama and quit giving media types ammunition to say that the fanbase is unhappy with KD. I was pretty sure this would happen with some . We have too many “ walked 2 miles to school in the snow uphill both ways “ types who don’t know shite about ANY sport and people take stuff and run with it on social media . I will guarantee you we could do a LOT worse than KD and I hope it doesn’t come to fruition but that may be the only thing that wakes some people up. Players , coaches, national pundits all like KD and his coaching but for whatever reason, the narrative is we are not behind him . Just don’t get it

And assuming we got our evaluations right and players are being developed, allocating our money mostly towards retaining the current roster means we will be one of those teams next year with the added advantage of the core of the roster having been teammates for 2-3 years. We have money but we don't have that 1 extravagantly wealthy and motivated booster DeBoer can go to for a check whenever the expected budget needs to be stretched a little. So it's either put high school recruiting on the backburner to focus more on the portal or focus largely on high school recruiting and player retention with the portal as a tool to fill gaps where necessary. Both strategies have their drawbacks, but we have clearly gone with option B which means that there will be years where we have a really young team or a small, inexpensive recruiting class. It's really nothing to be concerned over unless we lose a lot of underclassmen to the portal after this season or the 2028 class is unremarkable too.
