Not only that. Some players committed will get four stars this year. So be patient.
If Rihyael Kelley goes from the 1006th ranked player in the class to a 4 star that would be the most insane Bama Bump of all time. Opposing fans would lose it so I'm here for it.

He is 6'3" and ran a 4.4 forty at a Rivals camp recently.
I imagine he's due for a bump.

Fighting Okra, did you go to Delta State? I did not, but I admire the Fighting Okra logo tremendously!

When the coaches get on X and start posting the memes and stuff we usually don't expect a run on guys we've never heard of.

Rivals would rate him a 5.7

Some perspective on the staff's approach:
Its not a bad thought but until there is a salary cap - that also captures 3rd party contracts trying to skirt the cap - then you're going to need to be the best roster and payroll management outfit in the game to keep pace with those who can just whip their wallet out and buy anything they want.

Recruiting has fundamentally changed now with the portal. Some teams are going to emphasize Jr/Sr portal additions of more proven players over a recruit. Given the recruit has fairly high chance of transferring before a significant return on investment. At least if you pay up for a jr/sr guy it’s an instant impact and lower risk.
Whoever lines up a top 5 class is going to have to pay up front for some busts and then again for the ones who live up to the hype. All that money won’t produce much “results” in the freshman season (few exceptions). If it was like the old days where you kept the guys for 4 years that’s one thing but now it would be a waste of resources to try to keep top level talent stacked up like we are used to having the last 15 years. If you had unlimited money then that’s fine but there may only be few schools willing to do that right now.
I think recruiting is going to matter a lot less in the years to come and it’s a Shame. Recruiting, player development, and seeing guys come of age was a lot of what made college ball special. Now it’s shifting to NFL lite

I think the model that is going to bear fruit in the modern era is exactly what Ohio State did in 2024: you pay for top classes, you pay to keep your roster together, and you pay to snipe talent from elsewhere to fill gaps. The common theme: you're paying.
When Saban got here he said something to the effect that he only knows one way to win and it is with good players. I think that is selling himself short a bit because he got more out of good players than most. However, he is not wrong that football is a sport where strategy only gets you so far. Having elite talent is the surest way to win in football.
I'm sure that some of these 3 stars will end up being good players and many may even get reevaluated by the recruiting services now that that a major program has offered them. HOWEVER, if you think that the future of college football roster management is some sort of blend of 3-star projects and 5-star blue chips then you better hope for a salary cap mechanism. Because what I'm sensing is that the future of college football roster management is just about how deep your wallet goes.

I get the concern if applied to scholarship limits of 85. But when applied to scholarship limits of 105, it makes TOTAL and COMPLETE sense to take a handful 3star, even 2star, players.
And what's the downside? so they bust out and transfer. Big whoop. The only difference between that and a 5star player busting out is that we didn't have to kiss his arse and pay him a buttoad of money.
And the upside is tremendous if the 3star turns into a starter, or even a really good special teams player that saves your better players from getting injured.
The ONLY risk is if we start seeing more and more of these "diamonds in the rough" and fewer and fewer real deal blue chip players. If that happens, we are in deep trouble.

Isn’t the whole premise of this argument that we’re going to be taking more “diamonds in the rough” potshots?
I’m not really getting the argument that an 85 player limit means we should be taking more of a risk on lower ranked players. It’s also not the approach every other SEC school is taking. Realistically we should be continuing to stack talent and if talent transfers, so be it. We can transfer in replacements.

What’s the story with Emanuel Ruffin DL out of Bessemer? Did we pursue him at all. He has a top-2 of LSU and OSU.
