Show of hands for everyone who hopes DeBoer replaces Roach?

If you do, whom do you suggest he hire? Should there be an unlimited budget for the hire? Some of you would be let down by anyone else than Bo Davis. Oh, and speaking of which, did he go from being an elite DL coach to being a bum in one year since LSU hired him? Or is it because LSU lacks difference-makers up front as Bama does?

Look at LSU DL haul this cycle. I don’t know what it was but if they recruited and signed elite talent that should answer your question. LSU DL was depleted the last three years.

I remember the days when this board wanted to run Karl Dunbar out of town who is one of the best position coaches of the Saban era because he didn't want to drive in the rain on the interstate to watch a 3* recruit that left Florida after his freshman year. I don't even remember the kids name. God damn we are spoiled.

PREACH.

I'd take Dunbar back in a hot minute, he is one of the best DL coaches out there. He is what Jeff Stoutland is to OL.

I always prefer having great coaches over great recruiters on the line.

We DESPERATELY need at least two DE/DTs who are difference makers. I hope that the NIL/UA aren’t trying to be cheap and find a diamond in the rough for chump change in the portal.

Right now, we have a bunch of defensive linemen who are either projects and/or young and unproven. I hope they work out, especially if Bama whiffs in the portal.

I think Smith can be a difference maker.

I don't know if Roach is the problem but I do believe that D-line is the thing that looks most unlike the championship years. We used to kick-arse against everybody and now we don't against anybody. Nobody seems to care. We got our butts kicked in recruiting for D-line. We will not be back until we fix this.

Yep. It's been an issue for awhile and still is.

I don't know if it's the staff isn't making that position a priority or we're simply being out bid by other schools. I have a sinking suspicion CKS isn't looking very hard in the portal for D line help because you don't hear anything linking Bama to the few good D linemen in the portal right now. I hope I'm wrong.

Alabama is not going to add more than 1-2 from the portal for the DL. They signed three on ESD.

At this point it is pretty apparent that Alabama's NIL is somewhat limited in comparison to the current "elites" in the college game. I'm talking about Oregon, Texas, OSU etc.

It also seems that our overall NIL philosophy is to try to keep things spread out among the players more evenly than most teams. Time will tell if you can "win" this way.

Bauer to LSU. Does this mean Hasz will most likely commit?

I think you have to watch out for Oklahoma, being a native.

His brother is also transferring from Arkansas, so it might be a package deal scenario. He's a DB, but mainly a special teamer.

I can't believe there are still so many Roach defenders. It reminds me of people who defended Wiggins until he was finally gone.

Who would I suggest to hire? Well, Roach is the 5th highest-paid DL coach in the country according to Football Scoop, do I feel like Bama is getting a good return on that investment? No. I would hope DeBoer makes a quality hire.

Our DLs have steadily declined since Roach has taken over. When we do land top DL recruits, they're not progressing and developing like they should. It's like they pop off their first season and then never hear from them again. Some position coaches bring extra value in either recruiting or developing but the years that Bama doesn't even land a top DL prospect, it stings just a bit more. Even the "lesser" classes are still filled with guys most schools would kill to have and yet it seems like it's a struggle every year watching guys try to break through from that group. What happened to Payne? Osborne? Hill? Oatis? Smith? Who was the last difference maker Bama had at the position?

I see Roach is getting credit for LT Overton. Everyone, except A&M apparently, knew he was played out of position. He was the former top overall recruit so obviously talent wasn't an issue. Wait didn't both his parents work at UA in some capacity? We're trying to give Roach that win? Yeah, that's desperate.

When you put together top classes every year at Bama, there is a certain expectation level at every position group. Sure sometimes you get bad breaks or guys don't pan out like you thought but even then you've seen other positive marks to know it's more of an outlier than the standard at the position. I'm not seeing that on the DL. It's just consistent disappointment.

Coleman isn't anywhere CLOSE to a difference maker at this point.... at the HS level. Let alone SEC college level.

Film don't lie. Coleman will be good one day.
