Switching a QB to safety

Lol. It will be interesting to see if recruiting services go back to reevaluate him as safety since they focused on him as QB and ATH

Switching a QB to safety... Well, that would be like having a coach on the field.

Sort of like Tommy Wilcox was for us old geezers.

I remember reading/seeing some coach somewhere saying, the best athlete ends up at qb on most HS teams. Yet most end up playing a different position in college, of the ones that go on to play college ball.

Coach Bryant had several highly rated QB's playing DB.

Tommy Wilcox and Jim Bob Harris were two of them.

Any concerns at all about Downs and Haynes in atlanta today with their Buford and mill Creek teamates?

Does it seem to anyone else that kids recruited as athletes don't end up making it as often as you would think based on their ratings? Seems they don't settle into any one role long enough to adjust, maybe?

As a whole I would agree. Of course there are exceptions. Most seem to find their ways on special teams, which is good for the team.

Many of the Bama players listed as athletes in recruiting sites that "didn't make it" left before they had an opportunity to settle in.

It seems that way to me too. I think a lot really depends on there being a strong alignment between the player's goals and the coaching staff's opinion about his strongest role on the field. Especially at a program that is consistently recruiting instant impact freshmen. If you don't settle into a certain position pretty quickly you can easily find yourself stuck behind younger players on the depth chart.

Went back and looked at it and it really isn't that bad really for athletes. All these guys were listed as athletes on 247:

Trevon Diggs
Bo Scarborough
Eddie Jackson
Derrick Henry
ArDarius Stewart
Blake Sims (although he played everywhere and waited)

Kardarious Callaway, Burgess-Becker and Sanders did not stick it out.

Townsend and Story are really the 2 others outside of Sims unless I am missing someone after 2010. Both have flashed but just didn't rise to the top. Really a high hit rate.

We have NiBlack, Law, Bond and Kite for 2022 but they all have defined positions.

Yeah, that doesn't sound as bad as I remembered. I always thought we recruited Bo Scarborough and Derrick Henry as running backs from the start, though. Other folks did want Henry to play on defense, however, and that's why he chose Bama.

I think all these guys for the most part were recruited to a specific position group it is just some had to be moved based on depth at a position/need at another in certain seasons.

There are plenty of others recruited as athletes whether they were listed that way or not. Jimmy Johns and Alvin kamara. They were listed as all purpose backs which are essentially athletes, comes to mind.

My list is 2010 on, I think it is pretty comprehensive from that point. What are we calling an athlete, someone whose is recruited for potential at multiple position or someone who is versatile? I would agree the list could be expanded by a few guys depending on which definition you are using.

ETA: Just like Henry, I think Kamara was recruited as only a running back although I could be wrong.

C/O 2024 WR commitment Perry Thompson had 11 catches for 179 yds and 3 TDs last night. He is an absolute beast. 6'3" and ran a 4.4 while tearing it up at camp this Summer. Will end up a 5* (or should).

Any LSU commits we may look to flip once it becomes clear that the angry tomato is in over his head when he can't pad his team's schedule with service academies and lower tier B1G teams?
