So why post that now? Is it to send a message to a potential recruit?

I think TideSwamper's comment sounds aggressive, when I believe he meant it from more of a curiosity mindset.

it is a quote from a 247 interview published today. It’s behind a paywall but here’s the link if anyone has a membership and wants to read it in full

Haven’t we had a Jay Williams on roster before? He was a punter if I’m not mistaken

Good memory! From a 2010 write up
quote:

Tide signs 6-foot-4 punter Jay Williams

THOMASVILLE | Jay Williams expects to contend for playing time next season as a University of Alabama freshman.

Williams, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound senior at Thomasville High School, saw action at tight end and wingback but signed Wednesday to punt for the Crimson Tide.

“It was just a dream come true,” Williams said. “I’ve been an Alabama fan my whole life, ever since I can remember. Signing that paper just kind of finalized that. I can’t wait for the road ahead.”

Williams is taking advantage of a rare opportunity in getting an offer as a punting specialist from a Southeastern Conference program. He wants to be in the middle of the competition to replace senior P.J. Fitzgerald, a four-year starter who was Alabama’s punter during its national championship season.

Sorry for the delay, my father in-law was hospitalized about the time I posted that question about why now? Just got home.
Not sure how the question is aggressive. He has been committed for a long time and it seemed strange to me to post that. But I do not do any form of social media so maybe it’s normal for kids to make posts like that. I thought maybe there was another recruit that maybe he was trying to influence to come to Alabama.

I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday, but I remember a relatively unknown Alabama football player that signed in the 2010 class

Jay Williams was supposed to be a really good punter

I don't think he posted it to social media, it was from an interview he did.

Yeah I went back and read about him. Apparently he decided to stick with baseball after a year or so with the team. Must’ve been a really good athlete

The yards clearly don't stand out but 75% completion percentage and what is not on there is "zero" interceptions. And he has no elite talent at his school. He just doesn't make mistakes and is incredibly accurate. We are going to love this kid.

Yes, I realize that now. I just thought maybe he had posted that to send a message to another recruit trying to persuade him to join him in going to Alabama.

Are we pursuing Cam Coleman? Figured with him opening recruitment and being in state we might be increasing our intensity to land another WR

Indicators are he is not interested and up until now hasn't been very responsive. Seems to be more responsive to Auburn but observers also believe he wants to go out of state hence why he committed to TAMU
