Companies need to get back to hiring people based on Intelligence and Integrity. I have a fairly well groomed beard. If some company wouldn't hire me because of that, they would be making a huge (not to mention ridiculous) mistake.

Powhound, don’t know if you’re really serious about the whole thing about Golding looking well groomed. His job is to recruit, coach, and identify with 18-19 year old kids. I am pretty sure there’s a time and place he has to ‘clean up’.... like at a banquet. But he’s a football coach....come on

Matt Patricia just got a head coaching gig with the Lions. Pretty sure it wasn’t because of his GQ look....

Golding may be doing a good job on the recruiting trail, but he looks like a slob.

If he is going to be meeting with parents and coaches as a representative of UA he should consider a shower, shave, and haircut. Then immediately lose about 20-30 pounds. (Seriously, another 20 pounds, and he will not be able to run the drills hes teaching)

I'll admit I've turned down plenty of people applying to work for my team based solely on their inability to show up to their interview looking like a professional.

This is a terrible post.

Not having the common sense to show up to work clean, shaved, and looking like a pro demonstrates a lack of intelligence.

Just kidding ! (although I'm kinda not)

Thought I felt an easy rustling coming along, but this is not the thread for it.

My apologies. (I do wish this would have come up in another thread, because I do feel as though someone would have completely melted by the time I was done. )

Golding looks like he keeps his facial hair pretty well trimmed and he has curly hair. It's just going to look that way unless he cuts it down really, really short. Do you think a football coach should wear a suit and tie to work every day? I guess I understand the idea that someone making that kind of money shouldn't be wearing shorts and a polo to work, but it's also not 1965 anymore.

Facial hair has come back in the professional world. Just gotta keep it fairly groomed. A 3 on the sides and 2 on the mustache is preferred but plenty of people are proffesional looking with large beards.

I've always hated rules against facial hair, long hair and tattoos. As long as you're clean and don't stink, I don't give a damn I can't tolerate folks that don't bathe or have good hygiene. frick that. Water actually drops out of the flippin sky, use it

No it doesn't. I'm an engineer and work in an office full of other engineers and we all wear jeans an t shirts unless we have company and nobody gives a shite.

In around mid 90's I was in the process of hiring a computer operator. One of the guys applying shows up wearing a Greatful Dead t-shirt. My secretary called to notify me the guy was had arrived and she said.."you're not going to hire this guy for sure"...she was correct.

Without commits things get tense in the recruiting thread . No judgement on my end, I worked in HR for a few years and have opinions about dress during and after hiring that I will keep to myself.

I don't blame ya. No matter which side you're on, you'll have darts thrown at ya.

We need a commit or at least some good news

This thread has gotten way off the 'cruitin' trail...
I am a CPA with a JD and several other professional certifications. Have had a close cropped beard for 30+ years. Have also worked in Banking for over 20 years. I am who I am with a beard or not. And if the hiring manager is caught up in "the proper appearance" then their loss. I have been hired by several places (not an active job hopper) and never was my beard a problem. Even though most were "business attire required". Football coaches would be expected to show up in polos and khakis every day, and on the field in sweats or shorts. Golding's appearance seems perfect except to those closed minded idiots who just judge books by the cover etc. LETS GET BACK TO CRUITIN NEWS

This. Golding beard looks silly. Nothing wrong with a well groomed man beard. Hobbit beards should be shaved completely, or very well groomed.

Also short hobbits shouldn't be fat. It's just a bad idea. I wouldn't even give soup to a short fat hobbit in a soup line much less a job. Disgraceful.
