Does anybody know anything about the so-called baggage that Venables has carried around since his days as the LB coach at K-State?

Was this the Gambling thing or was it a Sumlin (rampant alchohol abuse) thing?

Can we just admit that our last few signing classes have been subpar from a DL/LB depth building perspective?

We've signed too many skill players and not enough big baws. That will catch up with you

Venables is like Bud Foster and Chief. The only other major dc that never became a HC is doing life in prison.

Supposedly whatever it is has had something to do with keeping him off the radar for these Head Coaching jobs that never seem to mention him. I don't know anything specific and have only seen un-verified rumors on other sites...

If I had to guess from looking at him, Venables has a long term cocaine habit and doesn't let silly stuff like "there's a game starting in 45 minutes" stop him.

Mickey Andrews was a head coach at Livingston (now UWA) and UNA between 1970 and 1976.

What do Alabama coaching exits mean to the program? (al.com)
quote:

Alabama has yet to name Locksley’s successor publicly but AL.com on Dec. 11 reported the school is expected to promote quarterbacks coach (/Co-OC) Dan Enos to the position. Considering his experience in that position and the success that group experienced last season would make for a logical transition.

Nick Saban expected to promote Dan Enos to OC for Alabama (al.com)
quote:

Alabama’s “One of a Kind Quarterback Whisperer” is expected to soon have a different title — offensive coordinator. Nick Saban is expected to promote Dan Enos to offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide, sources confirmed to AL.com...

Enos' promotion to OC seems similar to Tosh's promotion to DC last year. Outlets like BOL and al.com reported early on that their sources confirmed they're being promoted. But Bama didn't announce Tosh's promotion for quite a while. I'm expecting Enos to be Bama's OC.

Georgia among schools pursuing Alabama’s soon-to-be-OC (al.com)
quote:

Multiple schools are pursuing Alabama’s soon-to-be offensive coordinator, including one of its top SEC rivals.

Dan Enos has emerged as a possibility for the offensive coordinator jobs at Georgia and Miami, sources told AL.com. At least a couple other schools have expressed interest as well regarding OC opportunities, per sources.

Enos, a former head coach at Central Michigan, earned rave reviews last season in his first year as Alabama’s quarterbacks coach and sources have said he’s expected to take over as the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator if he remains with the Tide.

“I think Dan has done a really good job with our guys,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said during the season. “I think the biggest thing is the preparation and preparation that whatever the play is, whatever the call is, that the quarterbacks have a very clearly defined read of what their expectation is on that play and that they don’t pre-determine things before the snap and they develop confidence in going through that read progression. So you’re getting the ball in the right place at the right time. Our guys have done a pretty good job of that, but I think Dan has really helped them understand exactly what the expectation is on every play. And that comes through really good teaching and preparation through the course of the week.”

Media reacts: Michigan makes 'shocking' hire of OC Josh Gattis (247Sports)

quote:

Jeff Ermann @Jeff_Ermann
Everyone at Bama (and Michigan) shocked by Josh Gattis' to Mich. news. Bama staff all believed he'd agreed to follow Locksley, Michigan people hadn't heard his name. Sounds like the Maryland offer was accepted and then quietly shopped. Michigan thing was totally silent.

How much of the Gattis move to Michigan is Coach Khaki trying to get back at Saban in their little ongoing pissing contest?

I don’t think Gattis was anything special. Just another assistant that had a coffee at Bama.

I think Gattis was a pretty damn strong WR coach and recruiter. He got a promotion, good for him.

Agreed. We don't have to downplay every staff member who leaves, these wide receivers were developed very well this season and that is Gattis.
