It had everything to do with DeBoer not having the testicular fortitude to bench the captain and the perceived “face of the program.”

Perhaps it was his loyalty to #4 for keeping his roster (as many as possible) intact for this season.

So this guy isn't sure Ty will start when Milroe isn't around but he knew definitively Ty should have started when Milroe was here.
This is the type of fiction and fantasy only a smooth brain wouldn't question.
