Best recruiting staff he's ever had, per Saban yesterday

I thought this topic didn't fit into the recent existing topics.

Saban apparently said yesterday at SEC Media Days that this staff is the best recruiting staff he's ever had. I find that to be astounding. I'm sure it has a lot to do with Locksley, who might be the first legitimately great recruiter we've had to occupy the OC spot. I'm sure there are others here who could fill us in on the recruiting prowess of the rest of the staff, and please do.

But can you imagine, after winning 5 of 9, if Saban gets this staff to make an incredible recruiting run here in what has to be well past the halfway point of Saban's tenure, and load up on talent so much that he cements this Bama period as the greatest dynasty in CFB history, up there with the greatest championship runs in all of sports? Hell, he could just stay near his average at Bama and hit 9 of 15 Nattys.

Best recruiting staff he's ever had? After winning 5 of 9? Just incredible. Roll Tide.

I feel like this has all been demostrated by our great start to this cycle. I have a feeling that we'll be able to retain these young coaches for a year or two, so Saban could realistically be set up for the rest of his tenure.

Regarding Tosh and Locksley, I think it'd be in their best interest to stay for 3-5 years, maybe more. Look at Kirby. Venables gets better offers each and every year. Stay till your offered the job you want, not a stepping stone gig.

I think you can expect Lupoi and Locksley to stay for a while. Lupoi is only 34. He needs 4-5 years of experience. Locksley has been a head coach. And it didn’t go well to say the least. Definitely rebuilding his resume like Kiffin in 2014.

It’s Golding and Gattis I’d worry about. They have the co-coordinator titles. Someone may give them the full title.

I think a lot of folks saw this coming and thought so. It's pretty remarkable. I think this is the best staff we have ever had as a whole.

Absolute unit.

Saban is geared up and renergized with this young staff. He’s ready to make another run, should be exciting times the next few years. Strange to think about, but if Saban decides to coach for 8 more years after this season he would have been at Bama 20 years. Bryant was at Bama for what? 25? Crazy.

I always say each year that Saban has yet to recruit/sign a player to Bama that he won't coach through that players eligibility. One day that will not be true, but I don't think it's today.

Would hate to lose either one, but I really hope Golding stays a while...his stunts as DC have been impressive wherever's he's been...seems to be an aggressive and innovative defensive coach. Think he'd be the heir apparent if/when Lupoi leaves and think our D would remain in good hands...

Kiffin is a legit great recruiter, but his baggage probably limited his effectiveness while at Bama.

In terms of 247 Composite Star recruiting I don't buy it

Kuli + Enos are both great hires and great coaches, but both are average recruiters at best and clear step backs from previous coaches on the trail.

Now, if by recruiting you are talking about evaluation + identifying talent in the 3* ranks, than sure. Kuligowski is a god amongst men when it comes to finding 2-3* players to turn into All American RD1 picks

In terms of winning recruiting battles, I just don't think this staff isn't as good as the '15 / '16 staff

I think with Enos/Kuli hires make this staff one of the best at Alabama in years though

My only concern moving forward is how much did this past recruiting class hurt us? Clearly Saban wasn't very happy with it

You won’t be able to judge until 2021. The 2010 class was disappointing too. It showed up in 2013.

It won't matter as long as we sign an elite class this year. The 2017 class was one of the best classes ever signed, according to the composite points. If we sandwich last year's class between 2 epic classes, it won't matter much. Also, our last class finished #6, not number #26. It's a very solid class in it's own right with future stars like Surtain, Waddle, Anoma and others.

Ehhh, 2017 looks like an elite class the way 2009 was, but we suffered in 2013 in large part because 2010 was lackluster on paper and 2011 was devastated by attrition. Dee Hart, Marvin Shinn, Brent Calloway, Danny Woodson, Corey Grant, DJ Pettway (although he did make it back), LaMichael Fanning, Aaron Douglas (Rip), Ronald Carswell, Phillip Ely, and Duron Carter. That's half a class. There were a few other guys in that class who either never became contributors or didn't until the end of their careers. If the 2019 class isn't a dud on the field the subpar 2018 class won't be an issue.

That class was snakebite.
