QBs generally go into the portal so they can go plug and play somewhere, not to sit and learn. That's a hard sell. I think you're better off trying to develop HS guys and use the portal for a stop gap if you end up in that situation.

Nate Clifton is an interesting prospect in the portal, DL out of Vandy. Would seem to fit well as an end in our front from a size standpoint.

Jalen Catalon back in the portal. He was all world in 2020 and the fizzled.

Maybe so...but we had pretty good luck, before the portal, with a guy who transferred and had to sit the bench for a year. A kid might take a look at 4 Alabama QBs currently on NFL rosters and decide it's worth it.

Coker transferred as a grad transfer and was eligible immediately. I'm pretty sure he saw a path to start with McCarron gone. Sims just beat him out for the job. To his credit he worked that year and was ready for 2015.

I won't speculate on specifics, but hopefully we will have at least one reserve QB on the current roster stick around to continue trying to develop alongside Sayin.

Julian Fleming, 5 Star WR at Ohio State, is in the portal. Seems like we recruited him out of high school.

Fleming was a bit of a bust who never rose any higher than WR3, if that, for them, and McCord is the second most hated person in Columbus after Day right now.

I haven’t seen anything about bama pulling from the portal. I did see where we aren’t considered one of the schools Walter Nolan might transfer to.. Georgia, LSU, Oregon, Texas, Michigan and Tennessee supposedly are his possibilities.

I forgot about the center position to be honest. I know the Notre Dame center entered the portal and he would be a good one. We do still have one of the Brockermeyer brothers. We could always cross train a guard. I know when I was a walk on way back in the day, our guards practiced snapping every day before practice, both under center and shotgun.
