Had a buddy play golf with Tyler Buchner yesterday. Said he shot a 78 with probably 40+ putts. Had very good things to say about him

If you guys paid attention to some of players on recent months.... They had good things to say about him.

Either way, he's gone. We have new ILB, new DC coach. Let's focus on that. No need to complain about something that's in past.

Koolaid and Dallas are leading what hopes to be our best defense in years.

I understand the optimism and the rationale behind it. At the same time, last year's defense was supposed to be generational, and it didn't live up to its potential.

Now, I realize some (possibly most) of the blame for that rests at the feet of Pete Golding. However, I'm definitely in the "show me" camp before I start to get excited about this year's defense.

I’m excited about the defense due to the new blood, but if they don’t suffocate that UTx offense week 2, the excitement will quickly fade.

That UTx offense might be the most explosive offense Bama faces all year. It'll be quite the test in Week 2, so I don't think that game will necessarily be a good barometer for how the defense will perform the rest of the year, especially because the young guys and new starters will continue to improve.

Rumors swirling that Tommy Rees is taking the NW job.

He graduated from there.

Will be great to hopefully see the pass rush get home against what turned out to be a not-so-great Texas OLine the rest of last season. Felt like it took forever for the pressure to arrive, with a #2 overall NFL draft pick at that) and by then the ball was long gone. The Golding loopty loop around pass rush strategy being gone should make at least a little bit of a difference.

Without a loooong contract with a big buyout, that doesn’t make much sense

I hope he doesn’t do it… but you can’t say they won’t try to get him.

He was a graduate assistant.
I think he received a masters from NW.

It would definitely be a big loss considering we are in mid-July. Fall camp starts in like three weeks.

It’s not happening. All this over a Bruce Feldman report speculating that Rees would be a good replacement while also stating this:

quote:

If Rees does garner interest from Northwestern, it likely won’t be until near the end of the 2023 season. According to Feldman, Northwestern is expected to have an interim coach this season before “ramping up” its search in November.

Also, from another recent article:
quote:

Northwestern is expected to name defensive coordinator David Braun as their acting head football coach after the firing of Pat Fitzgerald on Monday, according to a new report. Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, who was one of the first to report on the firing, Braun will be named the interim coach in the near future:
