If he's careless with the ball at Bama he won't play. I'm not too worried about it. His potential to distribute the ball is better than Milroe and Simpson right now. Also, none of the QBs at Bama will be called upon to win games with passing.

I think Buchner is better at reading defenses at this point which is something Saban mentioned after the scrimmage as an issue for our guys. He’s athletic, has a decent arm, seems to read things better…if he can eliminate the turnovers he could be a solid bridge to a younger guy like Simpson in future seasons.

This dude threw 3 picks(2 pick sixes) in those highlights(which was his best game) and Milroe is the one that plays like a deer in the headlights? some of y'all are making me feel like I'm going insane. Both Milroe and Simpson are better than Buchner IMO.

Here’s the thing, I’m not saying he is better than what we have, we don’t know. Worst case he’s an experienced backup.

There seems to be some chance to me, this kid can be really good. I dunno we will see.

Also something to add, is the talent gap between Bama and ND. I venture to say we have better players than they do?

This is on tRant, but figure it should be in this thread:

quote:

Despite Tyler Buchner's commitment to Alabama, Jalen Milroe's camp says he doesn't intend to transfer and is excited about competing for the QB role this fall.

“J will continue to do what he has always done — keep chopping wood and carrying water.”

Tony Tsoukalas Tweet

Milroe vs. Simpson vs. Buchner would be a lot of fun in Fall camp.

I watched a highlight against OSU at their house from last yr. Buchner stats wasn’t nothing to brag about, he didn’t turn the ball over. 10/18 177yds no td’s.

ND was out gunned against them but Buchner played tough, kids got some grit. He’s not afraid of contact took some shots in the pocket.

I have said this for two years.

Soon people will realize just how much was wasted the last two seasons. We should have easily won 3 in a row.

The fact that we had some on here wishing the "Bryce Young era" would end... not realizing it wasn't him, it was the idiot coaching him and the other idiot coaching the defense making this top talent look average....

Just..

Agreed. First two were shite.
The third was a poor pump fake and he didn’t see the safety drift behind the lb. Poor execution and shitty play call.
I think this kid can be a good one. He won’t be Bryce good. But, how often does that happen.
Who knows, he might never play a snap at Alabama.

Nick Saban, on College GameDay, on bringing in Tyler Buchner: "We wanted to give our quarterbacks in our program every opportunity to win the job in spring practice. We felt like we needed to add some competition in the room."

If you look at the quarterbacks as a position group rather than an individual competition, it’s easier to see this as a net positive. Buchner will be the only Qb with experience in Rees’ system. Whether or not he starts, he’ll help the others along and act like a junior coach in the group. We need that right now.

Big dude that can run and throw while doing it. Guys on this site that don't even want to give him a chance because of a stat line probably won't be persuaded, but he looks like a solid addition to me. Some of those throws he made vs SCar were on the money. My money is still on Simpson, but bringing someone with at least some experience can't hurt.

We're not running Rees's system, we're running our system with Rees's "wrinkles."

Oh the fault lies with Saban.

I just wanted to point out how people legit wanted Bryce gone and didn't appreciate him. Soon they are going to wish he were here and the hatred I have for Bill O'Brien... even his biggest defenders will mirror.
