How is the game not at least on ESPN2 or SEC Network?

Because you have to be either a defending NC or...Colorado(!?) to get your Spring game on a real network

The Milroe File - from Tuscaloosa News Excellent piece breaking down Milroe’s game stats so far.

I’m going to start by saying that Jalen Milroe has a ceiling that is higher than any other QB in CFB. I truly don’t think most people realize how fast that guy really is.

He also has a massive bust potential because he needs to demonstrate mid level and deep ball accuracy along with a vast improvement in his game awareness against defenses that are going to treat him like they did Jalen Hurts during his sophomore season and take away the things he is really good at.

I really think he has the potential to be better than Lamar Jackson at a similar age, but I’m going to need to see that he’s ready to be a championship level QB this season before I’ll believe it because what I saw last season was a faster, more turnover prone version of Hurts before he got benched and went to QB boot camp for two years.

I also believe 100% that the coaches are going to have to meet him at least halfway with their offensive gameplan and playbook to harness his talents and give him time to develop his weaknesses. Put simply he isn’t going to be successful running the BY or Tua offense, but I think he could be hell on wheels running the Jalen Hurts or Blake Sims offenses.

Alabama has very good, possibly elite wide receivers. It needs a QB that can use the entire route tree to take advantage of the talent. That’s why I think that Ty will win the job ultimately. Now I do believe that Jalen could come in if needed in an emergency.

They weren’t elite last year. I don’t think they were even above average, but whether that was scheme or talent remains to be seen.

On paper if Benson is who they say he is, we find a QB who can get him the ball deep and develop a run game other teams fear again it’s a completely different story.

But last year the separation was pretty bad for the most part, not that BY could push the ball deep effectively after his injury.

This was especially true after other teams started doing the “mush rush, drop 7-8” scheme and BY would end up sitting back there for 8-10 seconds before throwing the ball away.

Three of the wide receivers were true freshmen in 2022. Bond, Law and Prentice were turning a corner the final few weeks of the season. Burton and Brooks were also looking good in the Sugar Bowl. That’s a very solid rotation. Benson looks to be a true number one receiver so the others will complement him. I’m more concerned about who steps up at tight end.

TE will be MUCH improved with Dippre and Niblack. Also, Danny Lewis has gotten a lot of raves from people inside the program so far this Spring. Pretty much everybody is saying we should be much better there.

I hope you’re right. Niblack is a talented player with a high ceiling. I also think that the true freshmen that were signed this year are really talented. Jalen Hale, Jaren Hamilton and Cole Adams. People have mocked Adams for being another Slade Bolden and that is not true at all. Adams is faster and more talented than Slade.

I’m not saying the potential isn’t there, I’m just saying from a results and separation standpoint it was the worst we’ve been on the field since before Kiffin was calling plays.

Benson / Burton / Brooks / a sophomore on paper could be a top 5 group nationally if they get solid QB play, I just want to see it translate consistently on the field because it didn’t last year at all.

Bryce getting injured had a lot to do with it. OBrien also an average play caller as we all know. I also think that the offensive line is better. Let’s just hope that it improves the offense as a whole in 2023.

He didn't look like he was ready for the physicality of SEC football. He might become Travis Kelce as a receiving TE but he's got a lot of work to do to become a strong blocker.

Agreed. He’s nowhere close to his ceiling and that’s what’s exciting. His skill set and measurables are somewhat similar to OJ Howard in my opinion. His best football is ahead of him.

OJ Howard roomed with King Henry when they first got to school. Henry had a herschel walker style work ethic and it rubbed off on Howard. Those dudes worked their arse off.

If Niblack does the same, he'll be a good one. Hopefully he develops some good habits and doesn't go the Billingsley route.

Damn, if that doesn't get you excited about Benson, then I don't know what will.

We need Benson to be the guy. Say what you want about last season, but the receivers were hot doodie. Dropped balls and no YAC. Guys were falling down after being sneezed on after the catch.

That's my only beef with Jacorey Brooks. He's clutch but he gets tackled way too easily.

The thing in Malik Benson's tape that stood out to me besides his ability is that his Juco OC seemed to be more creative than what Bama had under BoB.

They never had any YAC because nobody could get any separation all year.

Didn't help that the guys with the speed and shiftiness to turn a 10 yard catch into a 40 yard TD were freshmen and mostly got the ball on WR screens that were easily blown up because our WRs and TEs fricking sucked at blocking in space and BooB had no other ideas for getting them the ball.
