The only memory that sticks out to me for Utah State is when they blew a big lead late in the 4th in the season opener against Auburn about ten years ago. I recall them looking quite good and well coached.

Yea Bama was in the middle of blowing out somebody but the crowd audibly cheered when USU went up 2 scores in the 4th. Auburn recovered the most beautiful onside kick you'll ever see (of course they did) and won late.

Is that the same game where the Utah State punter shanked a punt deep in their own territory late in the 4th and auburn got the ball back at something like the 30 and scored to win it? Or am I thinking of another game where they should have lost but the golden horseshoe luck pulled them out of another embarrassing potential loss?

I don't think so. I think Utah State scored mid-way through the 4th to go up 2 scores and the next time they got the ball back, they were down

Yeah. That was in 2011 when we were playing Kent State opening weekend. The chant of "Utah State!" started in the student section and started to reverberate around the entire stadium. Of course Auburn ended up pulling a horseshoe out of their arse.

I wonder how many times P-5 teams have been tied with or losing to G-5/FCS teams in the 4th quarter of games the P-5 team eventually won over the last ~20 years, and by how many games does Auburn lead that category.

The most beautiful onside kick i have ever seen was Alabama vs Clemson in the national title game a few years ago. Good guys recovered it.

My nephew was the Auburn kicker on that onside kick against Utah State.

Looking at it from 2011 to now, the number of games isn't great but some of these games they probably had less than a duck's dick's chance of winning at some point in the 4th and still pulled it off.
2011: Utah State (as discussed)
2012: UL Monroe (AU won in OT)
2015: Jax State (AU won in OT)
2021: Ga State (ball bounced off ground and ruled complete or else game would be over and Ga State wins)

What is the closest thing we have to this since ULM? Being tied with The Citadel at halftime? Western Carolina kinda hanging around one year?

“The biggest mistake coaches make is taking borderline cases and trying to save them. I’m not talking about grades now, I’m talking about character. I want to know before a boy enrolls about his home life, and what his parents want him to be.” Coach Bryant

It makes me sad too when a player ends up wasting his God-given talent due to his character/attitude issues. It happens at all levels -- HS, college, pros.
My own oldest son is age 45 going on 15. I've tried so hard to teach/help him get his shite together, but he doesn't care or try. It's truly heartbreaking.

You will probably get over it if he makes a good play or 2 or, forbid it, a few vs Alabama
