It had been reported previously that 12 Missouri players would not play after either testing positive for COVID-19 or being contact traced to a player who did.

On Tuesday, first-year coach Eliah Drinkwitz said that inconclusive tests that came back negative would allow five of those players to compete. The identities of the players involved were not disclosed.

I think my greatest fear with Missouri is just the unknown. A new coach can do that. I guess we should expect App State on steroids.

I'll store this in the same part of my brain that thinks Alabama basketball is back every year. I'll believe it when I see it and not a second sooner

LINK ]Dylan Moses on Alabama LB Will Anderson:
"I Expect Great Things From Him"
(SI)

LINK ]Will Anderson's ascent to starting role 'not surprising at all' (BOL)
quote:

LINK ]Will Anderson has impressed since he enrolled at Alabama in January. But that’s not unusual for the talented linebacker, according to his head coach at Dutchtown (Ga.) High School.

“I walked on campus February of his freshman year, and just his work ethic once I got started and once my coaches came in and started working with him, we knew he had it all,” Clifford Fedd told BamaOnLine. “He has a motor. He has the want-to, the desire. He has the skill set, the frame, the strength. He’s just been a warrior since Day 1.”

That’s why Fedd wasn’t shocked to see his former player listed as the sole starter at Jack linebacker on the Crimson Tide’s depth chart for 2020 after only 20 collegiate practices.

“We’re not surprised at all,” Fedd said. “To us, what he’s doing there is what our expectations of him were here at Dutchtown. We’re pretty much saying, ‘Hey, welcome to the world.’ Now the world is about to learn about who Mr. William Anderson is.”

The Hampton, Ga., native was one of Alabama’s top 2020 signees as the No. 5 overall recruit, No. 1 weak-side defensive end and No. 1 player in Georgia, according to 247Sports. The edge-rusher totaled 22 sacks and 15 more tackles for loss during his senior season, playing a major role on a Dutchtown defense that allowed an average of 7.7 points per game.

“He’s an animal,” Fedd said. “He gets after it. He does a great job. He takes no days off. He wants to be the best that he can be all the time, every single day. He always ran sprints with our skill (players). He didn’t run with the O-line and D-line, he always ran with the skills to compete, just to be in good shape. He’s just an animal. He just has it all.”

Of all the promising newcomers that joined the Crimson Tide program this offseason, none have generated as much buzz as Anderson. He quickly found himself earning second-team reps in practice and progressed over the course of fall camp to the point that he ultimately claimed a first-team spot. Still, Anderson’s just a freshman who has room to improve.

“Just playing on that level, being able to play consistently at that level, he hasn’t had an opportunity. He’ll get his first opportunity this week,” Fedd said. “But he’s gonna be consistent. He’s gonna work hard. He’s gonna study the game. He’s gonna watch film. You’re talking about a young man that after we played a game on Friday, one o’clock in the morning on Saturday morning, he’s already looking at the next film. So, he’s gonna be a student of the game.

“He’s just gonna get after it. That’s just been him from Day 1. He’s always wanted to be the best he possibly can. He wants to be challenged. He wants to be pushed. He just wants to be the best that he can. He wants to be the best Will that Will can be.”

When Alabama kicks off its season on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Missouri, Anderson will be the first true freshman to start at Jack linebacker during Nick Saban’s tenure in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He has a mountain of hype on his 6-foot-4 shoulders, but Fedd believes he will live up to it.

“Will’s gonna get after it,” Fedd said. “Will might lead the SEC in sacks. He’s a pass-rush specialist. He understands how to use counter moves, how to use one move to the next move -- speed to power, swipe. He understands all of that. He has a tool belt full of tools. So, I expect Will to be one of the best pass-rush specialists in the SEC this year.

“Come Saturday, Will Anderson’s gonna be introducing himself to the world.”

LINK ]Nick Saban Addresses Who Will Sit Out Week 1 Due to COVID-19 (SI, Sep 21, segment)
quote:

According to Saban, the Crimson Tide does not have any players currently diagnosed or recovering from the coronavirus.

We don’t have anyone who’s out for sure," Saban said. "But we’re testing every day so that’s kind of an ongoing process as to how that goes."

Including injured players, junior DB Ronald Williams Jr. will be the only player not available for the game this Saturday against Missouri.

Baker will be back in next few days (maybe tomorrow) but he missed game prep practices. He could be cleared by game but I do not know. You don’t know c0mpletely with covid testing and exposures.

Alabama is testing every day so could change as above said. If a player tests positive the end of this week, they will miss two games!! If test positive, you are out for 10 days and have to be symptom free.

Just a random thought but if JT Daniel's isnt cleared to play by the alabama game, does anybody think kirby might try and pull some covid frickery to have our game postponed to the end of the season?

I don't think that's possible. Alabama and Georgia don't share an open date, and there's no open week between the last game and the SEC Championship Game.

Somebody posted this nugget about Will Anderson. I know, its second hand info but I know some of yall will still enjoy it.
quote:

I go to church with a guy whose son is a TE on the team. They were eating dinner with Miller Forristall after the 2nd scrimmage and both of the players said the one player they hated trying to block more than anyone else was Will Anderson. They said he's un-blockable. My friend went to both of the scrimmages and said Anderson had 5 sacks in the first one and 6 in the second one. Let's hope the havoc he's wrecked in practice translates on Saturday night
the more I read and hear about this guy, the more I cant wait to see him in action

The hype is getting out of control. If he doesn't have 12 sacks, 2 INTs, a TD, and a blocked kick against Mizzou should I be disappointed?

LINK ]When will JT Daniels be cleared to play after knee injury (247UGA, segment)
quote:

With Georgia set to begin its 2020 season at Arkansas on Saturday (kickoff set for 4 p.m. ET on SEC Network), the status of redshirt sophomore quarterback LINK ]JT Daniels remains a major question mark for the Dawgs. The arrival of the former USC signal-caller during the summer was an eye-opener in the college football world, with graduate transfer LINK ]Jamie Newman already on campus at the time. But Newman has since opted out of the 2020 season, creating a significant reduction in the depth at quarterback and putting even more eyes on the position heading into the road opener.

While most of that attention is now on redshirt freshman  LINK ]D'Wan Mathis, who figures to make his first college appearance as the starter this weekend, the availability of Daniels remains a top interest. Kirby Smart provided an update on Wednesday, saying that Daniels "has not been medically cleared yet," but he remains hopeful he will be cleared in the next few days. That is very similar to what Smart said a week ago when he told reporters Daniels would likely be a game-time decision.

I think Kirby already knows whether Daniels is or isn't medically cleared to play this weekend. He's already said he won't reveal it before gametime.

Don't get your hopes up. The Missou OT's will get Will in a sleeper hold when he gets past them but the zebras will refuse to call holding.
