best defense against hunh, create 3 and outs. however your defense can achieve 3 n outs, do it.

Gotta coach up players to be 3-down players that are effective against run and pass. Against fast tempo offenses, you only get occasional opportunities to rotate guys to keep them from getting gassed.

I'm not arguing that point. I think Golding is going to have to be a lot better at dialing up the pressure to get his defense off the field. Subbing is hard, and Bama has sprinted different personnel on the field with some success, but it's hard to consistently do.

Well Bama is working on their 4th DL coach in 4 years so hopefully Freddie is the answer.

Players like Q and Dareus, and Barmore if he gets it together ,etc don’t come around often that can carry 300 plus pounds and be effective rushing the passer. That’s why they are coveted in the NFL. Our rush will have to come from Jack position or OLB . The way offenses are playing today getting rid of the ball so quickly , is why Saban likes to effect the QB as much as sack him... maybe Anderson can be that guy that is stout enough to set the edges on runs AND get a rush

Do you mean Rep Chart? Eboigbe, Baremore, and Young are the guys Saban said had more growing to do as far as stopping the run and rushing the QB. But Eboigbe has been singled out by coach as the most consistent of the group.

I did chuckle a little to hear coach Saban tell us that Will Reichard hit 4 of 5 field goals but missed a 55 yarder. But then wanted to remind us that they haven't decided on a kicker yet.

I think that's it. The next Tim Williams would be a great addition to this defense. And a DC who is of the mindset of Jeremy Pruitt would be nice too.

From the sound of the BOL insider, we aren’t stopping anybody, not even the 3rd team QB and the 4th string RB. Don’t like the way it sounds. I hope CNS has Golding on a very short leash this year. He’s got all the toys you could ask for to plug in so no excuses this year. If we struggle to get off the field, put his arse in charge of the water boys/girls and let Charlie Strong or someone else take over DC. I’m tired of waiting for the boy wonder to get his head out of his arse.

If he takes over the water crew, I’m telling my daughter to kick his arse for being a dumb shite.

saban had pretty much nothing but praise for the o line, so it's more likely Anderson is just good

As a DC, Charlie Strong's forté is effective stunting/blitzing schemes for 3/4/4 and 3/3/5 defenses. He's not about holding-the-point 2-gap DL all the time. He favors the DL attacking -- undermining and beating the OL's blocking assignments by stunting through the OL gaps, getting quick penetration and disrupting the play (whether run or pass) behind the LOS. I hope we've installed some and will be dialing them up this season. We'll see.

I can’t go through another subpar 3rd & Golding yr again. I just don’t think I can bare it.

Dickerson's versatility gives UA flexibility in deciding best OL (BamaOnLine)

I'm not sure how legit this is because If Saban had any concerns about defense, he definitely would've called them out. I think it's just that Bama offense are that good. We'll find out in two weeeks.

we put up with 3rd & kirby for what, 8-9 years. i dont recall kirby ever having to deal with the attrition that golding has dealt with. as much as i dislike it also, we're here now and we have to deal with it.

i'm proly more anxious about how much the new s&c crew can improve the guys season long health. than i am 3rd & golding, right now anyway. it's a fluid situation.

It looks like our best OL is
LT - 70 Leatherwood / 60 Randolf
LG - 65 Brown / 55 Ekiyor
C - 69 Dickerson / ??*
RG - 69 Dickerson / 55 Ekiyor
RT - 73 Neal / 75 Brown

??* If Dickerson at guard - all other center options have an issue
55 Ekiyor not quick enough with hands and feet
79 Owens not strong enough upper body to hold the point
71 Dalcourt not strong enough yet

My guess is they end up giving up power/execution at right guard in order to prevent major penetration at center. A guy like Dale would eat Ekiyor/Owens/Dalcourt alive at center.
The problem with Ekiyor next to Neal is both do better in attack mode (road paving) but will not handle stunts as well due to lack of quickness. A DE like Barmore would eat them alive.

This was posted by tim watts on BOL back at the beginning of august.
quote:

Spoke to a source this morning and to say Will Anderson has made a good impression so far would be an understatement. We've heard this off and on so far, but Anderson continues to standout. Strictly business on the field. Already setting the tone with his work ethic and others are following and recognizing he's different. That's a mouthful to say in the Alabama locker room for a true freshman. Same source said Will might be the best defensive player on the team right now.
-Another true freshman drawing praise is Drew Sanders. Both he and Anderson were highly ranked, recruited and motivated but it’s good to see it go from paper to the field/ weight room. Source said pretty much the same thing about Sanders as he did Anderson. Strictly business, hard worker and gets after it. He is expected to play a lot this year at this stage.
-Chris Allen and Ben Davis have looked good so far but Sanders/ Anderson will be pushing them. That competition has helped everyone involved and IMO that was a missing concept for last year’s Alabama team. There wasn't 2nd team guys or back ups pushing the starters, so easy to get content. Allen/ Davis have looked motivated as well and that pressure likely will get the best out of all 4 of these players.
-One last note, and since this was such a popular subject last week here and on other boards, Ishmael Sopsher continues to look good so far. My source mentioned Ish without being asked about him as one who is working hard, and showing improvement. He still has a ways to go and needs to maintain that urgency, but it seems he's headed in the right direction.

So I think it's more of will anderson being an absolute freak more than poor play by the offensive line

THANK YOU.

People are acting like problems getting off the field on 3rd down against HUNH teams are a new problem for Bama.

Truth is, outside of Pruitt's tenure, it's been the most consistent part of the defense for close to the last 10 years.
