Yea it wasnt a scrimmage but they did simulate a lot of game like situations. There's a poster on BOL claiming that there are some rumblings that Sark wants Bryce to get more reps with the 1st team. TIFWIW and with a grain of salt

Finally got some info about today's practice

quote:

While it wasn’t an official scrimmage, the team did practice today at Bryant-Denny Stadium and worked on a lot of game-like situations, as Nick Saban said it would. This Saturday was all about the offense, and Mac Jones had a really good day -- on his 22nd birthday, too. Facing the first-team defense, Jones threw two deep passes to DeVonta Smith including a touchdown, and Jaylen Waddle turned a quick pass from Jones into another long gain.

Bryce Young saw a lot of reps Saturday, including a few with the first team. But he primarily worked against the twos, which was different than last week’s scrimmage (1s vs. 2s). Paul Tyson also got reps with the second unit and fared much better than last week in facing the ones. But the story from Saturday’s practice, which was all but a scrimmage, was Jones.

For the second week in a row, the running backs played well. After not hearing much in the first scrimmage, it sounds like Trey Sanders had a pretty good day. So did Najee Harris, Brian Robinson and Roydell Williams, who appears to be No. 4 in the tailback pecking order through 12 preseason practices. Williams was responsible for the longest run of the day.

The freshmen on defense we’ve talked about all preseason continue to impress. Brian Branch is still receiving first-team reps at Star, while Malachi Moore works with the second group. And in today’s “stop me if you’re heard this before news,” Will Anderson continues to be a terror at outside ‘backer. He stood out during the snaps he saw with the first-team defense.

It sounds like Eddie Smith had a nice practice Saturday, which included an interception. He’s someone we don’t mention a lot, and with Branch and Moore working at Star, he seems to be the fourth safety behind guys like Jordan Battle, Daniel Wright and DeMarcco Helams.

Finally, we saw some footage of punters in the video UA sent out from the early portions of practice. Ty Perine has been the top guy there, and it seems as though Air Force transfer Charlie Scott, the brother of JK Scott, is second in line. Will Reichard is sticking to field goals.

Not a problem man, Roll Tide!!!

After reading the practice report, it does sound like Bryce took some first team reps if he was practicing against the 2s. But they could possibly be letting him go against the 2s to get him up to speed a little before unleashing the beast of the 1s on him. I could see where our 1st strings would demoralize a true freshman getting his first live action in college.

ETA just noticed where it said mac had a good day working against the ones. So it must have been 1s vs 1s today.

Would be nice to see Anderson mature enough to at least be a Tim Williams this year. Good to hear he's making noise.

I'm actually happy for Mac and I'm well known to want Bryce to be the man.

Hopefully Mac has grown quite a bit and can be the best option and not just the most experienced.

In the end we need Bryce getting a lot of snaps anyways.

He’s the GOAT, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t made mistakes. Several instances he’s had a tough decision to make about playing time, chose the veteran, and it was the wrong decision.

- Tua should have started his Frosh year over Jalen.
- Jeudy/Ruggs/Smith should have played over Cam Sims & Robert Foster
- Josh Jacobs should have started his last season here over Damien Harris.

Ok, go ahead & tell me how wrong I am and Saban is perfect.

I like the way that Daboll used Tua in 2017. Jalen was a lot more ground and pound and Tua had his air-mail package. Tua had meaningful reps throughout the season and frankly, I believe this could very well be the same blueprint for this year's QB rotation.

I don't think Mac, at this point, was a better general than Jalen, nor near as accomplished. And I don't have any notion at this point that Bryce is as good as Tua was his freshman year. I suspect coach Saban will watch and adjust accordingly.

We don't know what to expect with Bryce yet because we didn't get to see him at A Day this spring. Tua had a spring practice to go through. He was special and we all saw it. Mac Jones is not as good as Jalen especially as an athlete. We all know that. Bryce is a special player. Is he on the same trajectory as Tua ? That's the million dollar question.

Mac Jones is a much better passer then Hurts.

Put Mac Jones on that 16 Bama team and that teams wins a Natty.

This is false. Stop the nonsense man and let Hurts go.

Let him go.

Tua never finished an entire season without an injury.

We literally had things go perfect for us and won a National Championship and some of you are still second guessing.

I mean FFS the year after we needed Hurts to come in and win us the SEC CG.

Anyways, let's just hope Bryce Young is more durable.

Saban is more experienced handling a talented true freshman QB. With that said, I do believe Mac will get ample opportunities to lead this team to a championship and Bryce will get a lot of snaps once the games are decided. As long as Mac isn't turning the ball over he'll likely remain starter the entire season.

Jones showed last year he was a much better passer then Hurts.

Jones shredded a damn good Auburn defense last year. Hurts got shut down by every good defense he played against at Bama.

Bama was down right awful on offense in the 16 and 17 playoffs until Hurts got benched and Tua came in and saved a natty.

It was easy to stop Hurts, keep him from running the ball and make him pass. Jones can make the throws that Hurts couldn't.

With the receivers Bama had the last four seasons, you just had to get them the ball. Hurts never really could.

I’ll throw in my .10 cents on what I’ve heard of Mr. Young.

In short, he is the real deal. Throws a hard accurate ball, is athletic and smart.

How that translates to Bama 2020 no idea.

Andrew Bone was on Justin Crain’s podcast the other day (Jboy) discussing things Alabama related, and Mac Jones vs Bryce Young was brought up.

He essentially said he expects Bryce Young to see playing time, but that the 2020 team belonged to Mac Jones. Not having spring practice and missing time as of late has hurt Bryce Young’s chances at taking over the reigns this year.

I don’t really know anyone’s opinion of Andrew Bone or how close he is to the program anymore. A lot of what he said seemed like common sense.

I think in the end it worked out for Hurts. Oklahoma was a good system for him. Put up some great stats and got him drafted.

Same can be said for Tua at Bama. It was ironic that Hurts came in against Uga and really put the team on his back and won the game. It was one of his greatest moments ever. That door will always be open for him at Bama.

That game was really a testament of who Hurts is. And what Saban preaches more then anything.

Seems accurate to me.
