Pierce Quick all the way down to 280? No shot at seeing the field at that weight. I wonder what the issue is there?

I also wish we knew what the procedure is for these weights and whether or not it’s the same every time. I’m sure some of these bigger guys can fluctuate 10 or more pounds on practice days just depending on when you weigh.

I wonder with a guy like Quick who is likely a year away from seriously competing if a new staff like we have looked at it as a way to tear him down and then slowly build him back up?

I hope that's the case, if not it's alarming that he lost so much weight during all this. If it's not part of a plan by the staff there's only a few possibilities. 1) he had COVID and experienced some strong symptoms (I've seen cases that result in a lot of weight loss); 2) he lacked the discipline necessary to stay in proper shape; 3) his body just can't support the amount of weight needed to play on the line in the SEC.

Even if it is part of a plan, it's odd. Usually the "break you down to build you up" players are the ones with bad weight. E.g. Sospher could be a guy they dropped from 350 to 300, but will come back up to play at 325. Quick was a guy coming in that didn't have bad weight, he was lean and in great shape. The knock was that he would need a year to add twenty pounds of muscle and get into the 310 range. Dropping his weight even more wouldn't make a lot of sense, from an outside perspective.

Yea, it just seemed really strange so I was trying to think what it could be.

But you are right, might just be a guy who has trouble keeping weight on and being away hurt him or he got sick.

He didn’t say. Was very vague and keeping it close to the collar. Just coach speak to make it sound like we may have a few sitting. Hope I’m wrong.

Saw that too. “The players...” seems to imply more than one has decided to opt out of the season. Got to believe it would be Surtain and Waddle, but it could be anyone with a potential first round grade i.e. Leatherwood and Smith. Moses tweeted out he was glad to be back. Man, I hope I am wrong though.
