Disaster in Athens. Injuries mounting, getting trounced in G3.

Have to flush this one and keep fighting. But could be an up and down year, especially with pitching.

Hess 4
Farone 4.1
Banks 1.1

Those are how many innings our starting pitchers lasted this weekend.

Of course you’re likely going to get smoked on the Sunday game with numbers like that.

Looks like Banks is going to be out for at least a while.

Need to consider swapping Hess and Farone.

Sundays will be bullpen by committee which is what’s it’s been all year, but might need to see what Heighberger can do in that slot.

Definitely do not think Matty Ice should be put into the starting role. He’s too good in the reliever role and we need him there. I’d be surprised if Tyler isn’t our Sunday (or Saturday if you’re talking about next week’s series). The other Freshman who was the first pitcher to go 3 up and 3 down in this last game against UGA hasn’t had the best luck during his Tuesdays starts, but is showing his ability to stay poised when things aren’t going his way. I also agree that Greg feels like the Friday night guy at this point.

Our fielding isn’t helping our pitchers out across the board even if the stats aren’t always showing it. If you’ve watched the games it’s pretty evident. Really think we need to stick with Snell in the lineup.

Hoping Banks isn’t out for the season.

Shelton has hit two bombs today against the corndogs. Holman is 5-1 with a ERA less than 1.00.

I missed some of the HRs Hess and others gave up and I noticed it’s a pathetic 314 down right field at UGA.

That should be illegal in the SEC. I’m pretty sure the field we played on in little league as 13-14 year olds was 315.

I’m fine with that. We’re throwing shite against the wall to see what sticks. Roll with it.

Read ‘em and weep. Pitching situation is reaching critical mass.

quote:

Alabama baseball suffered a 10-5 loss to Georgia on Sunday afternoon at Foley Field. Following the series finale with the Bulldogs, the ninth-ranked Crimson Tide is now 18-6 on the season and 2-4 in Southeastern Conference play.

Things were even at 1-1 at the midway point of the second when Georgia began a stretch of eight unanswered runs headed to the seventh. In that seventh, the Tide cut into the lead with a three-run homer from Kade Snell, but UGA came right back with one run in the eighth. Alabama was able to cross one in the ninth but could get no closer than the 10-5 final.

The Crimson Tide totaled 11 hits and drew eight walks on the day but left a season-high 15 runners on base. UA reached at least one baserunner in every inning and put men in scoring position in eight of those nine frames.

Georgia starter Christian Mracna (3-1) got the win, allowing one run on five hits and four walks with seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work. Brian Zeldin secured the save, recording the final out in the ninth. Alabama starter Hagan Banks (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up two runs in 1.1 innings of work before an early exit due to injury.

From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"Our guys showed up and competed their tails off today, we just had a couple missed opportunities and that was the story of the game. We had some good at-bats. We got aboard in every inning and moved guys into scoring position in eight of the nine innings. We had 11 hits and walked eight times. On paper, with our offense, that should equate to some crooked numbers, but we just weren't efficient early and that cost us in the end."

I knew this would happen with Quick out for the season. We just don't have enough quality depth there. I would like to see us focus the recruiting on elite pitching in the future because it seems like we have at least one if not two season ending injuries early in the year every season. In fact I don't remember the last season we had where we didn't have injuries to a starting pitcher. I know it's part of the game and a lot of other schools go through it too, but many of the SEC schools are able to use the lottery for their recruiting.

Hope I’m wrong but it looks like we might have lost Hagan yesterday as well.

We do have quality. The issue is they’re young. We have a round 2 draft pick who chose to show up to campus. I realize we need someone who’s polished with experience now, and hopefully they put something together that works.
