Pitching is pretty much a disaster

Jean looked great for the first 3 or 4 innings, but it all really came undone for him when Diodati committed one of the most embarrassing errors an OF can.

3 more errors today. Goodness.

Our relievers can't get anybody out.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to spin the pre-season positively right now. Coach Bo hinted at the same issue after the midweek loss, saying that we could easily have a worse record.
Most every aspect of the competition we are seeing right now is substandard to SEC competition. Our pitchers do not seem to be dominating. Worse than that, they seem to lack mental toughness - giving up way too many free bases off of walks and hit batsmen. Wild pitches have hurt us with men on third. These are not early signs of a staff that is going to be resilient against the first-round talent that many teams will be sending to the plate. Edit to say that pitchers seem to be pitching tight and anxious.
Our hitting is doing well, but pitching is going to get much better. Our defense has made a number of unacceptable errors, like letting two throws into the infield carom off the short stip or second baseman into the outfield for extra runs.
I have not been able to actually watch any games, but from the radio broadcasts, the defense seems pretty pedestrian.

We strike out way, way too much.

That’s just baseball now. Analytics and all that.

I do wonder what role Covid has played in the development of this team. We’ve seen other sports impacted. And some programs managed it well others not so much.

Headed to extras.
Not ideal for game one of a doubleheader.

Well it sucks.
10 of our 27 outs have been via the strikeout.

Don’t I know. I hate it. It seems even worse at the MLB level.
