Kinda surprising to me that scouts didn’t like hitting prospects this year. I know that they went to a different ball last year but watching a lot of games this year and there were a lot of hitters with good averages and power numbers across the country

Congrats to the young man. He seems like a very solid player.
Baseball recruiting is out of hand. I wish the NCAA would step in and prevent schools from contacting these kids until their junior year of HS. It might help curb some of this travel ball insanity as well.

I missed this summary article from late June. Still somewhat surprised at the apparent transfer of Grant Knipp. Wondering if that means Sam may be coming back (which would also surprise me).

outside of first, 3rd and SS it is hard to predict a starting lineup. The CF should be wide open for competition as our starter most of the year only batted 190. Eblin who did well at SS should be a starter somewhere and his bat was a lot better then our starter at 2nd and SS last year.
Pinkney seems to be having a good summer

MLB Draft nuggies from T-Watts
quote:
Seen a few mock drafts so did some digging around and sources indicated the following about the Tide roster and signees:
The Alabama staff is expecting to lose Dylan Smith, Peyton Wilson, Chase Lee, Tyler Ras and Sam Praytor off this years team to the MLB draft. Also signee Noah Miller is expected to head to the draft. If Miller is the only signee to leave then the UA staff will consider it a great few days. Everyone else is expected back besides those in the portal. Of course this is always subject to change but that is the feeling right now.
Also the roster next year is expected to be better than it was this year although they will be inexperienced on the mound. The staff feels they will have the best arm talent they've had during their tenure. And that's how you win in the SEC.
Few nuggets for you baseball guys/ gals.

Nice. I hope they are right about arm talent

Eblin was not better than Peyton Wilson last year.

Not to be rude, but I probably disagree with most of what you said. I think 1st, SS, 3rd, RF, and CF with Williamson, Denton, Jarvis, Hamiter, and Rose are pretty much givens to be starters again in some form or fashion. Rose, the CF you mention, was one of the best defensive CF in the country his freshman year. The bat will develop fine and was getting better towards the end of the year. As for SS and 2B, possibly Eblin is a better hitter than Jim Jarvis yet still not a “lot better”, but in no way was he better than Peyton Wilson was last year and definitely not a “lot better”. There’s a reason he’ll probably be a Round 2 pick tomorrow in the draft.

quote:It doesn't matter what his BA was if it was based off of 13 hits all year. It's the difference between 38 and 248 at bats between him and Wilson. Can't come to any hard conclusions from 38 at-bats, even though I do believe he has the potential to be a really solid player moving forward.
His BA was?

There's also the fact that batting average is one of the worst means of evaluating a hitter's overall level of productivity.
A slash line of .255/.375/.570 is more valuable than .315/.355/.410 and it's not even remotely close.

Eblin performed really well in limited action the last 20 games of the year. However, as noted, it was a really small sample size. But, a .342/.457/.931 slash line in 40 at bats is nothing to sneeze at. Definitely looking forward to watching him next year. He's having a decent summer as well, so that is good to see.
There is a reason that Peyton Wilson is going to be a 2nd or 3rd round pick, though. He slumped the 2nd half of the year but he's a very good player that positively effects the game in a ton of different ways.
