The guys out there tonight are all making their debuts. I highly doubt they will see the field in a SEC series.
Yes - in his post game comments last night he said we would be seeing some guys for the first time. It was tough to watch but I had to remind myself three of them were in high school this time last year (and probably not playing due to the pandemic) Coach had to see what he had in them at some point. Hate to lose these mid week games.
On to Wright State - hope the weather holds up so they can get all the games in.

I doubt many will want to relive it, but just in case...
Baseball Falls to UT-Martin, 9-4, on Wednesday
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"This was a disappointing day at the ballpark. We didn't really do well enough in any part of the game to get the win – we didn't pitch well enough, didn't hit well enough. We have to leave this one at the park. We're lucky to be 4-1, could easily be 3-2 or 2-3, so we'll have a great practice tomorrow and get prepared for Wright State this weekend."

Not terribly concerned about the pitching depth right now. Once we get into SEC play you're going to ride your starters a little longer and that removes the need for some of these guys to throw. Realistically if you are playing competitive baseball you can probably get through a weekend with 5-6 arms eating most of the innings and another guy or two for situational outings. We've thrown 14 guys this year.
With only three more Tuesday/Wednesday midweek back-to-backs on the schedule and arms getting stretched, it's a safe bet that 4-5 of the guys that have pitched will not be getting many more opportunities outside of a blowout in either direction.
If you look at the top 8 guys on the staff statistically at this moment, those will be the guys eating the weekend and midweek innings once SEC gets going. I think Hitt could have a role and I think Ras will continue to get some chances to round into form. The rest? Going to be very limited opportunities.
The offense is definitely a little more concerning. I'm not shocked, though, because it's by and large still a very young offensive team and offense tends to lag a little early in the year. The group of Jarvis, Rose, Heller, Eblin, Patota, Hawk and Pickney are 3-for-44 (Jarvis is 2-for-16 from that group). The only real SEC experience there is Jarvis, whose only season was cut way short last year. We were good situationally as the year went along last year, so hopefully we can get back to executing the small stuff where runs are there for the taking.

You bring up excellent points and I agree with you. I am concerned however, that our weekend starting pitchers haven't faced SEC hitters yet so we still don't know for sure how good they are or can be. Like you, though, I am very concerned with our hitting. It definitely looks like we are missing Auerbach (sp?) and Gentry. I am hoping Reeves can live up to his potential because i think we are going to need him now more than ever.

The bottom half of the order has been pretty ugly so far.

You're right about that.
Wilson
Diodati
Williamson
Praytor
Denton
Reeves
Jarvis
To me those guys are going to run out there daily in SEC play. Jarvis isn't going to hit much but he's there for defense and hopefully he can pick it up and at least be respectable out of the 9 hole.
Gotta find two more bats somewhere. Wilson gives you flexibility so that it doesn't even have to be a specific position. Just need two hitters - one to DH and one for OF/IF and let Wilson fill in otherwise.

Up next... am I reading too much into the Friday night starting pitcher? Hope he’s just giving Tyler a chance and nothing is wrong with Prielipp.

Does seem a little odd that he is not slated to pitch at all.... hope nothing serious . Maybe just soreness from first time out and cool weather... fingers crossed for sure
Surprised Jean didn’t slide up to Friday night as well

I don’t think you sit Prelipp the whole weeekend just to give someone else a chance. Something is up. Hopefully it’s not major.

Coach Bohannon didn’t have a post game press conference posted on line after UTM Wednesday. I’ve been watching for a Wright State preview video but haven’t seen it yet. Surely the subject will a come up the next time he interacts with the media.

In case people don't know, Wright State is a really solid baseball program. They've won 38+ games in 5 straight seasons and are 133-41 in their league over the last 6 years. Picked #2 in the Horizon this year.

And just like that - it popped up on the Tuscaloosa News site (behind the pay wall):
What ace pitcher Connor Prielipp's absence means for Alabama baseball's immediate future
Alabama baseball’s first loss of the season, 9-4 to UT Martin, was not the only hit it took Wednesday.
After the game, UA coach Brad Bohannon announced ace starting pitcher Connor Prielipp will be out for a short spell with a “medical condition,” which he did not define further.
Prielipp has not allowed a run in his college career, now spanning five starts and 26 innings. In some ways, UA is well-equipped to manage in his absence, but it also comes with consequences — some of them partially responsible for Wednesday’s loss.

Hopefully he bounces back faster than JQ did.
