You've got 22 positions to fill. Which Michigan players make your starting team?

A lot of folks won't like this, but QB. Starting RB, too.

RB Blake Corum

That’s it.

Blake Corum is a very good college RB. Better than Jase and Roydell.

Kris Jenkins is a solid DT. Better than any of the DTs Bama has.

That's it. Michigan has several solid players, but McCarthy isn't as good as Milroe. I don't know why he's projected to be a borderline 1st round NFL QB. He is not that impressive. I just don't see it. I wouldn't trade Milroe for McCarthy in a million years.

So that's about it. Michigan has some good guys in the secondary, but not as good as what Bama has.

Michigan is a solid defense. They play disciplined and make you beat them. They've got talent, but in terms of NFL guys they only have a couple each year.

•I think they lost an all world guard recently but their o-line is great.

•QB is impossible to tell. Michigan just needed a warm body to beat Penn State and he was a game manager against OSU

McCarthy is more experienced than Milroe but that's about it. Blake Corum is their best player on offense and if we stop him we have a good chance to win.

He’s like 25-1 as a starter with good stats in what I think is the 2nd best division in CFB. He’s a good player

One thing I am optimistic about is his yards per attempt against the 3 good defenses he’s played has been horrible (6.1). Part of that is because they seldom needed him to be great, but even then you want more production that that

McCarthy has been relegated to game manager for a while now. First 9 games of the season he had 1 game where he didn't throw for a TD and 1 game where he threw for less than 150 yards. Last 4 games of the season he hasn't eclipsed 150 yards a single time while throwing 0 TD passes.

“Coincidentally” this is when they played their first good defenses (and Maryland )

It’s a big ask but if we stop the run like we did against Georgia, things could go very wrong for them

I know we are sort of biased on these things, but it seems to me perplexing that the line started at 1.5, dropped to .5, and is now back at 1.5.

Why wouldn't the line be moving more in our direction? Can you imagine what we would be saying if Milroe went three games with 1 TD pass?

And I have difficulty believing that Michigan will be able to sustain drives on the ground and it seem like, without complete coverage breakdowns, they won't have much of a deep threat.

It just seems Taylor made for the Tide.

But obviously we are missing something because this Michigan team is considered a great team.

They seem much worse talent wise than that team that played UGA two years ago. They're solid. But they really lack any elite talent at a particular position.

Michigan is good. They have a bunch of NFL dudes on their roster. Let's not do the thing where we act like jackasses because we don't actually know anything about their roster.

I don't think they have a bunch of elite talent (as evidenced by their lack of 1st-2nd round picks in most mock drafts), but they have a ton of NFL guys across the board, are well coached and generally play clean football. They are good. And we've certainly struggled with teams this year with much less talent than them.

From watching them against the better teams they've played I do think that if we play one of our better games that we have an excellent chance to win. And we've done that most of the time the last 6 weeks. But let's not pretend that we aren't capable of doing some dumbass stuff and frickin around in a football game. If we do that, they are more than capable of taking advantage.

Jim Nagy is a pretty credible source and he said Michigan has 20 kids they think will play in the NFL

247 - Nagy says 20 players NFL draft potential 2023

quote:

Sitting down with On3’s Andy Staples, former NFL executive and current Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy broke down which Michigan stars could hear their names during next year’s draft, and whether or not that could even be possible.

“It sounds like an absurd … It’s like beating the 100 meter [sprint] by a second, having five more than the record drafted,” Nagy told Staples. “It does sound crazy, but when you look at it they have seven offensive linemen with PFAs (priority free agent) grades or better. Most of those are draftable grades.

“You’ve got two running backs (Blake Corum, Donovan Edwards), a transfer tight end (AJ Barner) from Indiana. The quarterback (JJ McCarthy) comes out as a junior. You’ve got wideouts in Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson. That’s the offense.”

The offensive linemen Nagy mentioned include three returning starters in right guard Zak Zinter, left guard Trevor Keegan and right tackle Karsen Barnhart. Returner Trente Jones, Arizona State transfer LaDarius Henderson and Stanford transfers Myles Hinton and Drake Nugent round out the OL watchlist members.

The numbers don’t dwindle defensively. If anything, Michigan is just as strong without the ball in their hands, as Nagy pointed out.

“Defensively, you’ve got two EDGE players (Josaiah Stewart, Jaylen Harrell), an inside guy (Kris Jenkins), and off-ball linebacker (Junior Colson) who’s a junior. You have three or four more DBs (Will Johnson, Mike Sainristil, Rod Moore, Makari Paige),” Nagy said. “I don’t know, maybe Jim is right. We’ll see, but there’s a heck of a lot of talent on that football team.”

If you’ve been counting, Nagy has accounted for 20-21 of Michigan’s talent. That’s nearly enough to cover an entire lineup on both sides of the ball.

None of those guys are 1st or maybe even 2nd round picks, but they have an entire starting lineup of solid dudes who will probably play on Sundays in some capacity.

We won’t like it because it’s wrong. Have you watched JJ play or seen his stats? I’ll take Milroe easy.

You’re insane. Give me Milroe all day over McCarthy. Their front 7 is really good…they probably have an edge at ILB and RB. Everywhere else IMO is either a Push or advantage Bama

In 3 games against ranked teams McCarthy is 45/58 passing for 118 yards a game, 1 TD, no picks and a QB rating of 134.

He is either hurt or he’s just not very good. They are playing like they’re scared of him having to throw.

QB - Probably a wash. Consistency/Experience with McCarthy vs. Upside with Jalen.

RB - Michigan. Corum is a beast.

TE - Michigan. Idk if they're actually "better," I'll have to watch tape more. But they're definitely more involved.

OL - Tough call. Probably a wash at this point in the season. Both units are really good. Michigan losing Zinter may prove to be a big deal.

WR - Bama

DL - Michigan, but it's close.

LB - Bama, by a lot.

DB - Bama, by a lot.

Specialists - A wash given recent slight struggles by our guys. Obviously the upside of Reichard and Burnip is sky high. Michigan's specialists are solid.

Maybe they knew they didn't have to throw to win those games.

ETA: He hurt his leg in the Penn State game, but had pretty much recovered by the last couple of games of the season. He's supposed to be 100% for the Bama game.
