We're not starting a 19 year old over a 22 year old next season.

Mack is still very young and also fourth on the depth chart right now

If he wins the job in the spring, and I expect he will, he will be the starter.

Based on what? Mack following DeBoer?

Unlike KD's transition season, there will be no danger of causing a mutiny and losing more players off a shaky roster if a certain QB doesn't start. There's literally no reason not to have an actual competition just like every other position. Just assuming it's Mack's to lose at this point is silly.

Not assuming that, I am assuming he will be given every opportunity to win it which I think he will. That's just my personal opinion and nothing else. If I ever had one criticism of Saban it was he didn't appear to always give younger guys a fair shot. The portal and NIL has put an end to that.

While he did seem to prefer veteran players, especially on defense, I can't say I agree with that. If the player earned it in camp, he had no issues playing younger guys.

Minkah
TJ Yeldon
Julio
Amari Cooper
Trent Richardson
D. Smith/Jeudy/Ruggs

Starting an 18 year old Jalen Hurts and bringing in a true freshman Tua for the second half of a title game suggests differently as well.

Gotcha, just curious as to your reasons why, given that we haven't seen him play much.

Just a gut feeling and one if the 247 guys saying he would have been the number 1 high school qb last year if he hadn't reclassified in the 11th grade. He just seems like a big time pro style qb.

ESPN currently projects him as the 4th qb to be drafted and ahead of Carson Beck.

Beck is going to drop like a rock with a UCL Injury, he might slip to the 3rd round. Having said that I don’t think Milroe should be drafted as a QB he is more suited as a RB.

I'd be cool with that. Just feels like Simpson has the edge. Former 5 star guy, son of a coach, deceptively good runner, and by all accounts hit the ground running in terms of picking up DeBoer's system in Fall camp.

Either way, would love to see an actual competition compared to what we got this past season.

He didn't take kindly to BoB saying that, and proceeded to... not prove him wrong at all.

I know you’re half joking but he does not have good lateral movement and quickness. When he tries to run around a player he has to turn his entire body instead of using good footwork and subtle body movements. That’s one of the reasons why he didn’t avoid a lot of sacks by running circles around defenders in the backfield like Bryce and Sims did. He mostly just has great straight line speed

Exactly! Been saying this. No lateral quick twitch and scared of contact. Straight line speed only

OK. But when Baltimore gets bounced in the 1st round we'll laugh together.

I don't dislike him. He just isn't a great qb. He plays hero ball. Last year vs KC in the playoffs, KC sucked vs the run and Baltimore was the #1 rushing team in the
league. Did the Ravens line up and smash KC with their run game?? Nope. Jackson threw it 100 times. They had 9 rushing attempts. Total. I dislike that he's Baltimore's qb because I like Baltimore.

Had to show that Jackson was as good as Mahomes. He isn't. Not even close. Worst of all, Jackson threw an INT and fumbled both in the Red Zone, both in the 4th qtr. Hero ball. Baltimore lost by 7. At home. Shocking.

Fumbles way too much and doesn't like contact.

I don't get why people are so high on Mack and so low on Ty.

We really haven't seen either one play. So all we have to go on are practice and high school. Ty was a MUCH higher rated recruit coming out of high school. He was a 5*, and the 4th rated QB. He was projected as a first round nfl pick. Mack probably would have moved up, if he hadn't reclassified. But he reclassiffied which means he's still very young to be a starting QB in the SEC. He will get his shot, but I don't see him beating out Simpson this year.
