Ah man, make a day of it and drive up the 101. So many cool little towns along the way. And if you cut north after Santa Barbara into that national forest(forget hwy number, 150 I think) it's even prettier.

We're flying in around 5 PM, seriously considering driving up the 101, spending the night then finishing the drive the next day.

I really hope someone has some experience with that area. I think it would be a cool drive if they are good about maintaining the roads.

I have made the drive from Tahoe to San Fran. but it was in the summer. You come down out of the mountains pretty quickly and are in the Sacramento valley where it can be blazing hot and dry. Temperature difference is extreme. You drive I-80 to San Fran. which is a major interstate I would think hey keep that clear all the time.

Currently flying into LAX and driving to the Bay

We're doing the opposite. Flying into SFO on Saturday then making our way down the coast to fly out of LAX the next Saturday. The scenery on the 101 is worth it if you have the time before the game.

SOG- i was in tahoe for the bama washington game 2 years ago. i ignored the kind warning from the lady at the reno airport rental car place about likely wanting 4wd. so it snowed for 5 days straight by the time i left. donner pass was repeatedly closed down, and for long stretches... on top of the requisite of having chains. i feel fortunate to have made it down that mountain, so much so that i now have a pair of snow chains hanging on my wall in florida as a reminder. i drive in colorado mountain snow 1.5 weeks every year, but never anything like what i saw that week in tahoe.

Thanks guys. Booked a car and hotel in Santa Barbara for the night we fly in. Drive the rest of the 101 Saturday.

Now the Tide has to come through.

I'm actually starting to get interested in trying to make the trip from Park City, Utah.

No tickets, no room... just come out and hope for the best.

How hard would it be to land a ticket that doesn't cost a thousand dollars at the game ?

Everything into Oakland/SF/Santa Clara from anywhere near Atlanta is basically gone except for expensive seats.

Salt Lake though, maybe a better chance?

You'll enjoy Santa Barbara. When we played Washington in the semis, I watched the game at the Ojai Valley Inn with a bunch of Huskie fans. I was the only Bama fan around.

Looking forward to it. These playoff trips have been nice to add a day or so and see a few places we haven't been before.

I'm more jealous of your drive up the CA coast than you going to the game. Pismo Beach was my favorite little town along the way. I liked Salinas as well, but I'm a huge John Steinbeck fan.

Never been to a national championship game but been to playoffs and bowls and big games over a lot of years. Very rarely do I buy tickets beforehand . There will be tix to be had (unless we play Notre Dame)
