Then I would call BS. Even the other coaches’ wives were saying Urban knew.

You can certainly call BS...and I likely would also...but if we're talking about contracts and lawsuits, etc., etc., there's going to have to be evidence that he knew. And so far, we haven't seen any. Our calling bullshite doesn't suffice.

Yep. I think Ohio St brass may think it's worth the media and public backlash coming if they choose not to fire him. I mean he is probably getting fired but I am not 100% convinced.

Really? I thought it would.

I'm not an expert on Title IX but I do know that the threshold is lower. If the other coaches' wives say Urban knew, then there probably isn't a need to have a smoking gun. I think OSU wants to retain him and will find a way to bring this in for a soft landing any way they can unless there's more out there.

I'd like to add that this is yet another reminder that Nick Saban is by far the best coach in the country. While Meyer might be a little more media savvy, he's also been slimey for years. Meyer deserved a lot more hell for the way he left Florida. He's the coach/person that some people accuse Saban of being. We might have some player issues from time to time, but Saban would never put the program at risk like this.

No clue whatsoever why you'd say this.

I think the biggest issue here is that Shelley Meyer is an employee at OSU and thus was obligated to report the abuse. If she hasn't I don't see how she keeps her job. She also apart of the OSU program much like Ms. Terry is apart of the Bama program. I don't see how they fire the wife of the head coach, a woman who happens to be a huge part of the football program as well, and everything is ok. Even if she didn't tell him, which no one believes, how could Urban go on like nothing happen. I see what your saying about possibly being a legal way around everything for Urban but how could OSU have her anywhere near the program?

Nevermind, Urban just said he lied at Big Ten media days. It is going to take some moral gymnastics for OSU to keep him.

ETA:
quote:

At the same time that Meyer was issuing his statement, Zach Smith was being interviewed by ESPN. He said that he was on a recruiting trip in October 2015 when he was called back to campus by athletic director Gene Smith. Zach Smith heard about allegations of domestic abuse and said that he went to the Powell, Ohio, police department. After speaking to the police, Zach Smith went to practice and briefed Meyer on the situation.

"I explained both sides of the story," Smith said during the interview, which will air on SportsCenter Friday (ESPN, 6 p.m.). "I volunteered to do that. I didn't ever hit her. He said: 'If you hit her, you are fired immediately.' I looked at him and said: 'If I hit her, I wouldn't come in here, I know how you feel about that. If I hit her, I wouldn't even come to work. I would know it's over.'"

Man if this is true and they never attempted to interview Courtney Smith, everybody needs to go.

Zach Smith is trying to white knight Urban at this point with the whole "I know I'd be fired bc I know you don't tolerate that" line of BS. And it'll work. ESPN will allow it.

Gene Smith will fall on the sword and say Urban told him (Gene) in 2015 about it and that he (Gene) didn't investigate properly. Urban will get credit, Gene Smith will get a big buyout (for his willingness to lie and fall on sword), and no one will really focus on this once kickoff happens on 9/1.

I get what your saying and maybe I'm too stuck on specific language here. He asked did you hit her. You don't have to hit someone to hurt them. To me if the follow up question is not "Did you hurt her?", then this is still unacceptable. Now if it is common knowledge that everybody agrees that hit is just the same as hurt then my bad, but it seems like Urban was allowing this guy to play a language game here. It is like the guy was saying pushing, grabbing and choking aren't hitting so I'm in the clear.

Urban Meyer is just a POS. Worst and lowest level of "human being" ever.

Obviously.

Someone is going to have to stand up in court and say "I told Urban Meyer." No one has done that yet.

So again, you me or anyone else calling bullshite isn't admissible as evidence, in the absence of testimony from a witness. Even in a Title IX case.

Now all of this may be moot with his latest statement that he followed protocol. If he did, there will be documentation and/or corroboration. So the only two things Meyer would be guilty of would be keeping a scumbag on staff, and lying to the media. Neither is an NCAA or Title IX violation. Maybe the university slaps him on the wrist for lying to the media.

I’m aware of that. My comment to that was in regard to how it would be perceived if Shelley fell on the sword herself.

This all moot now because he said he knew and reported it. If he knew, didn’t do anything, and tried to plead ignorance to it, then OSU probably would be investigating the staff and their wives to verify that.

Kinda, I started watching football in 2006, so this is the 1st coach I saw win a national title.

Screw him! This entire story stinks to high hell! Meyer knew this guy had a history and still hired him to OSU, all because of his "granddaddy". Lies 2 weeks ago about having any knowledge of the 2015 incident and says it was made up, only about an hour AFTER he has fired Smith. Today, has the rough draft posted on Twitter basically saying he lied and that he followed protocol. Meanwhile, the POS assistant is squirming his way through an interview, lying through his teeth. Claiming any injuries occurred while he was trying to calm her down or leave the situation. RIGHT!!! Hands always go around the other persons neck when trying to flee. A "independent" committee made up of former boosters is appointed to investigate. Sounds fair and unbiased!! Meanwhile, I honestly expect and believe Gene Smith will "take one for the team" in an attempt to save CUM.
