Mr. Commish, Greg Sankey, expressing "high to very high" concerns over having a 2020 season.
It is because of people like him in the beginning that came out and said we would be back to normal in the fall we are where we are now.
I understand there is a chance if we did not reopen as early as we did in some places we may still be facing the same issues we are now. But the problem in the end were so many of these people in position of leadership in their respective area decided to promote the business side of everything and claim this would pass and the fall for students, sports, and everything else would return to normal.
This happened across all levels and made people feel more secure then they should have, which in turn had people defying any guidance and/or law regarding how to proceed and wear a mask. So here we are and hope many of those who thought this would just pass us by and was never a serious issue, now realize simple things could have been done that may have prevented the fall being any different then the last 4 months.

Very well said! Time is starting to run out and we are in the same spot from back in late March. I think most of these leaders were hoping this whole situation would just go away on its own, so they would not have to make a decision and well, here we are!

Exactly
Selfishness, entitlement and poor leadership is why we are here.

Just got off a virtual board meeting for Mississippi highschool football. It’s postponed right now for the fall. Looks like it will be a 3 week delay on start time.. and that is being floated and will be re-evaluated after the 3 week mark. It’s not looking good

3 weeks from now ? Or 3 weeks from start of school ? Haven’t heard anything g yet and was waiting on MHSAA to meet Tuesday or postponed entirely ?
You mean 3 week delay on start of school ?

3 week delay to the season for fall football. They are voting today if it will be 2 weeks or 3 week delay.. sounded like 3 from what I heard. Which sucks. They were talking about pushing our schedules back 2 to 3 weeks. I wanted to speak up so bad.. but I wasn’t even suppose to be on the conference.

We are actually in much worse shape now than we were in March because we've now had 5 months to do things to minimize its impact rather than just 1-2 months. Sure, doctors have a better grasp on how to treat those infected, but we're still seeing delays in testing, lack of access to testing, PPE shortages in some hospitals, huge increases in positive test results, etc. It's been a failure in leadership across the board, and many want to continue to believe this is the greatest country in the world.

You’re not even trying to hide it anymore are you. You really do hate this country.
I bet you have a picture of Mao hanging on your wall next to Kim Jung-un.

What is being written and experienced it's pretty clear this country and sports, in general, is in the proverbial fallback position. We make our plans because that's what people do, and then we retreat for higher ground and rinse and repeat the process.
In a few weeks, the prophecy of the SEC commish will come to full fruition. The SEC will make its own version of a college football abbreviated schedule and a timeline that continues to get pushed back until further notice.
It's possible that late October gets thrown out there but if COVID-19 is to winter as a spring rain is to a flower pebble, as expected, look for a full retreat to the spring.
By then, it's actually somewhat scientifically responsible that this date makes the most sense. A year into this disaster and if for no other reason, just maybe this virus is running out of legs.

Pretty ironic that a person who is incapable of separating love for one's country and love for the leadership of one's country is accusing someone else of idolizing the subjects of two cults of personality.

No, I just expect a country that loves to label itself the greatest in the world to actually do things to support that position. Our collective response to this pandemic has been abysmal for a country of our wealth and innovation. We shouldn't be in the current situation we find ourselves in, and the heavy lifting in the response should have been put in place in January and February.

Nah, actual patriotism involves recognizing our issues and wanting things to improve.
You wouldn't understand.

It’s really on both sides.. anything Trump tries to pass Pelosi will block it in the house and the same goes for anything out of the house the senate will block it. We are in a power struggle with two parties and it’s ugly. Neither party cares for the people as much as it cares to hurt the other, and push some agenda across. We also have a health leader in Fauci who is a complete idiot if you ask me.. first don’t wear mask, now wear mask... this medicine doesn’t work, now it does. He really should be fired but that would give more ammo for one party to go after another. That’s what we are all in.. a political power struggle. BLM is the same flamed by democrats for votes. I’m a black man.. what has BLM done for my neighborhood? How does painting BLM in front of the Trump towers help me? Go take that time and clean up a project housing..use that money for boys and girls clubs. They line the pockets of politicians to get elected and feed trolls like Sharpton to get rich of us. Even Floyd’s brothers first message was go vote. We the people are fricked.. until we stand up and say we elected all of you and we make the laws. We are a free country.. time we start acting like it instead of waiting on big government to tell us how to live. I think it was Ben Franklin who said “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” We are getting very close to that My friends

Of course, which is why I said it was across the board.

He's been wrong on a few things, but that is going to happen with a novel virus. He's still one of the leading experts on communicable diseases in this country, and he has never touted a medicine for treating Covid-19. He actually tamped down the praise Trump had for hydrocloroquine if that is what you're referring to.
Posted on 7/13/20 at 9:20 am to The Spleen
I know he tampered down the praise on hydrocloroquine have you seen the new studies? It’s actually working and helping.. along with Pepcid AC. Fauci has been in office 1984.. he was good at his time.. I feel there is now better that have been practicing. Just my opinion but he has really been very off on this one.. and yes it’s a new virus.. but that’s his job. His job was to prevent this from ever happening.. that’s what he was in office for. He should have had a plan from the get go if something like this ever did break out.. Hell I know back woods preppers who were more ready..lol

This quote is in reference to the Penn family (namesake of Pennsylvania and owners of practically all of the state pre-Revolution) attempting to literally bribe the Pennsylvania colonial legislature into not taxing their land. The colony needed funds for frontier defense during the French and Indian War and the Penn family offered a lump sum payment in exchange for being declared immune from taxation. Ben Franklin opposed this. In his quote, "essential liberty" is a legislature's ability to levy necessary taxes and "purchase temporary safety" means quite literally allowing an obscenely wealthy family to hamstring the ability of the government to provide for the common welfare of its citizens by bribing their way out of future taxes with a short term lump sum payment. It doesn't mean what most people portray it to mean and is almost always taken out of context.

Who cares? He wrote that letter at a time when Pennsylvania was still part of the British Empire. His views on government would change a decade or so later.

Good to know.. learned something new. I was using the quote to relate to today times.. but I do like to know the origin and original meaning. Appreciate it. I do worry we are giving up too much freedom though.. there needs to be a balance. The people need to set that balance not the government.. and I feel term limits would be the way. Just not sure how we ever go about that with out a full scale revolt. You know the politicians are not going to vote to get fired..lol also we need to cut off government benefits for life for serving 2-4 years. It’s crazy the people had Obamacare but no one in government had it. They get a special insurance for life. I feel if they had to live with the laws they make after office, we would have better laws. That’s on both sides..
