Barnett couldn't win the job at 7-6 Arizona State and is now on his 3rd team. He was never going to get called at Alabama.
Bruh, Jalen couldn't win the job at Arizona State either.

He got his number called at Alabama to open the 2016 season and would have likely gotten another opportunity to prove himself later when Jalen struggled. His situation at ASU and transfers are not relevant to his situation at Bama.

He was better than hurts in 16 we win Natty with bb8

I think they are.
He struggled at Bama and bailed for somewhere else and presumably easier only to struggle there too - which he addressed by bailing for yet another program.
Maybe he has matured, but up to this point everything screams looking for the easy way and those types do not succeed/survive at Alabama under Saban.

Didnt struggle at Bama ...better game than hurts vs USC...Kiffin nut job with. Hurts and Sims over Coker bb8

I literally have to read everything you post like 5 times to understand what you’re trying to say lol

Saban having this kind of offensive potential is like a meemaw driving a Lambo.
I hope he uses it, but I doubt he ever gets it on the interstate and lets the horses eat.

You said..
Which he did. He started the first game of 2016. He also was the clear number 2 that year and would have played mop up and when Jalen struggled if needed.
Your initial argument was that he would not have had his number called which he had and would have had called again had he stayed. Nothing about his transfers or perceived lack of maturity by you would have impacted that. He would have never transferred or lost an ASU QB battle if he stays. On top of that if he stays Tua might not have come making him the clear alternative to Jalen.

For real. I'll say Barnett had 1 or 2 throws late in that game against a defeated USC, but he crumbled early when he started and looked like a deer in the headlights. That one hit may have knocked him silly.
Jalen didn't necessarily look like a superstar, though we all sort of overreacted a bit towards his play with some overzealous praise, but he found the endzone a few times and we beat USC of all schools by 46 in a year they finished top 3 in the rankings. Pretty damn good for his first start.

You former Hurts guys need to stop lumping us all together to smooth over how wrong you were.
Personally, I predicted BB8 to be our QB that year, and I thought he outplayed Hurts in the USC game. He certainly threw the ball better. And the "deer in the headlights" narrative was silly. He was a young guy playing in his first game on a huge stage, and he looked pretty good doing it. Just like Hurts' "cool and calm" demeanor. You might not see the nerves in his expression, but you could always see it in his play. People were too wrapped up in both narratives.
Secondly, I really think Saban and Kiffin wanted a mobile QB. That's what has hurt Saban's defenses. He knows it's difficult to defend, so he wanted to have one too. That, as much as anything, helped Hurts become the starter.
But, if your QB can only do one of two things, it's always better if he can throw rather than run.

I think Hurts took a step forward in the battle that night but it certainly was not over in my mind. The thing that surprised me was that Barnett got so little opportunity vs WKY. I heard the veterans like Allen were going around telling every one in camp that this Hurts kid was our guy...basically he "won the team". I think that had a big impact.
I believe Saban is the best coach to ever grace the sideline. He's the best at being a CEO, preparation, teaching, motivation and sports psychology. I also think he's one of the greatest at teaching technique and best defensive minds we've ever seen...BUT...I sometimes question his view on QBs. That's just me.

There are many factors that go on that we aren't privy to that impact the team.
Posted on 8/27/18 at 12:25 pm to MontyFranklyn
What Saban has done is rather unique. He has built his dynasty around everything but the QB. Now this isn't a totally new concept, but in today's game it is very uncommon. Saban doesn't like the risk that comes with elite QBs, I don't think he values the offset in the potential vs the risk. He'd rather make up for it in other areas on the field. Now, he has to see that QBs like Tua are great and are worth the risk.
Posted on 8/27/18 at 12:34 pm to MontyFranklyn
I really don't think there's a risk to having a great QB. There's a risk to starting a freshman. There's a risk to playing a guy who is prone to throwing INT's. But, a great QB, who is ready to start, is no more risk than a "safe" QB who doesn't turn the ball over and can't make the plays. Just because a QB CAN throw the ball doesn't mean you have to call those plays.
There's no downside, if all things are equal. And being able to throw a ball isn't inherently riskier. It's all upside. The skill is there when you want/need it.

Is Kaho that good that after maybe two weeks he is listed on the two deep depth chart and Ben Davis who has been here three years isn't. Not knocking Davis but he must be soft as Charmin. Well maybe that last statement is knocking him.
