And what is it with edge rushers being scared of our Depth chart? Do people negatively recruiting these kids convince them that Clowney, Nkemdiche, and all the others actually play for us? Edge rusher is still some place we need a Julio Jones caliber athlete. Some of these kids are just idiots.
From an outside perspective, it looks like y'all have gotten those guys in the past. Hubbard, Dickson, etc. were supposed to be that edge rusher, but turned more into disciplined edge run stoppers. That's more y'all's style, and it works. For a kid who sees himself as a big-time pass rusher though, that's not that attractive. A 4-3 or even a 3-4 defense with different priorities (see: UGA) can look more attractive. That makes it harder to get the elite edge rushers.
Ex. Jarvis Jones would not have had 15 sacks if he played for Alabama, IMO. Y'all prefer a bigger dude in that position to hold the point of attack on the edge. UGA likes the OLB to get up the field quickly and bring heat on the QB (that looks a lot more exciting for a recruit and is helped by our guys who have played that position finding NFL success: Justin Houston and Jones).
Long response, I know, but that's how it seems to me.
ETA: Congrats on Ronnie Clark

Good news on Ronnie Clark. I kind of hope he gets some size on him and converts to LB.
He'd be a speedy one.

Nailed it, imo.

Ronnie Clark imo is the one of most underated guys out there.
Ronnie has always been a total team player, a leader. Teammates rally around him, coaches love him. He comes from a strong, hard working family.
Safety or LB he will rise to the occasion.
Bama gets a special one !

Good assessment. It's taken me a long time to accept it, but the truth is we're not going to have a big sack total guy no matter who we land. I know Jason Taylor put up big numbers playing for CNS but that was a loooong time ago, and it's probable that CNS has changed his philosophy since then. Upshaw has been our most prolific pass rusher but if you go back and watch, a lot of his sacks came from breakdown in pass pro resulting in him being unblocked
The take-away is that I just don't care that much about landing Hand, Carter, or Evans because none would be the "difference maker" we fans have been longing for. But it's all good. Our system may not be flashy but it's extremely effective.

as long as the league is going to the dual threat QB and HUNH then it is forcing the D's to change how they rush the QB

Yep. This increases the importance of a guy like Rashaan Evans, imo.

@ScottWrightOK: Norman North INT ends the threat, but David Cornwell was injured on the blocked punt. Was on crutches heading to locker at half #okpreps

Rashaan Evans had a series tonight where he made 2 sacks and a TFL in 3 downs.

Who the frick is Kenny Young, an ILBer from John Curtis? The commentators said he has an offer from Alabama. He's a Senior and I've never heard of him.

he had a monster game tonight..i watched pieces of the game..I think he had 27 tackles. St Augustine with Fournette came back to win in the last minute and went for 2.

Curtis would've won though if not for the drop by that wide open receiver in the 4th quarter

FYI getting a phone gets rid of your best excuse for blowing people off. Happiest two years of my (working) life was when I got rid of the cell phone. I still miss those days (oddly more on the weekend than during the week).
