I am not defending Carter but J Pagan before he got hurt lead his team in 1 defensive category and that was loafing. They keep the stats online for each game that can be viewed by the public. When a player was lazy or did not put out 100% they received a mark in this category.
Now Pagan is not only expecting to start but some scouts think he may blow up this season and could come out early. So what a top ranked kid in HS does very seldom can be taken for exactly what they will do in HS. Just saying

But I saw him in one game and he didn't look great so he is terrible and our staff is terrible and everything is terrible.

Having a terrible game and being overrated does not equal being a terrible player. Our staff, on the other hand, is obviously terrible which is the real point most of us were making.

Obviously anyone who we recruit must have perfect technique before playing his senior year of high school or he is a bust.

Its so funny seeing the reaction of our fans. Just a few pages ago, this class didnt have enough star power and our staff cant recruit pass rushers...
Now the one elite pass rusher that was supposed to be a lock is already a bust... 1 game into his senior season. Nevermind that the kid is coming off Basketball and Football championship seasons as a Junior... Gotta love it, LOL!!!

The fact that we need a pass rusher means that we should be less critical of his performance/ability?
And it's far from just Bama fans. Pretty much everyone in the game thread was critical of him including fans from his top 3 schools.

Our staff is fricking terrible and needs to be replaced by the staff at IMG, who may or may not be run by the sports management company by the same name

It's fine to be critical, but some folks are totally making it seem like we should just walk away, which is ironic because not too long ago this board had some of the same guys tripping because he said he had Auburn people all around him... or after he named Florida his leader... or better yet after a few interviews were published and there was no mention of Bama.
These Norcross kids fought through one of the toughest classifications in the country last year. I'm certainly not excusing the egg they laid, but they were clearly cocky and not prepared for the buzz saw they ran into last night.
Maybe it motivates them, or maybe their true colors were exposed... either way it was just 1 game and its way too early to write a kid off with those measurables and with his track record, IMO. Like our staff is notorious for saying... Lets see how it plays out.

What is terrible is that people on this forum watched a game, saw something and shared and instead of people being receptive or discussing the information they get defensive and mock the posters and the information.
Screw you guys. Don't like the truth, not my problem. The kid had a bad day and looked bad, no one said he would never pan out, no one said our coaching staff didn't know what they were doing. We watched a game, discussed what we saw and we weren't wrong in our analysis.
In short frick the lot of you who didn't even watch but attempt to condemn those who did and actually cared enough to share the information.

he was playing the number 1 team per ESPN and like you I made observations of what I saw. I would have thought of all games this would have jacked him up plus it was on national TV. Once the game got out of hand I turned to something else so I hope it got better.

I know you probably don't think I was, but I feel the need to make sure. I was just screwing around. And I like calling the staff terrible.
When the first 247 rankings came out this year Sarc and I both said we thought Zo Carter was MASSIVELY overrated. I'd still take him as a project. But him being ranked as high as he is is an absolute joke

I thought the same thing myself. I was so pumped for this game, finally got to see him and man was it a let down. There really is no excuse (not that ESPN didn't try to make one for him and Ermon Lane) for that performance either. I would understand if he was getting beat and fighting but he just looked dominated. He didn't seem to have much fight in him unless he was sprinting off the edge and he wasn't as explosive as he's been described. What made it worse was his coaches switching sides, it just made him seem defeated and that may take a toll depending on his mental toughness. What did it for me was when Booker T's coach made #53 (I still remember his number!) follow Lorenzo Carter to whatever side he was on. He was basically a floating lineman and he just dominated and dominated and even got a flag for pancaking him.
I've never seen such an underwhelming performance in my life from a kid so highly rated. Even the ESPN guys were scrambling trying to defend the kid to casual viewers. Shocking stuff.
Ermon Lane was pretty poor today too. I don't know if these kids are reading those ratings and taking it to their heads or what, but a couple of them have gotten their butts kicked this weekend.

I'm not against us taking him, but like you said he is definitely a project. No way that kid at least for a couple years. He has to put on weight and get some heart.
Another thing, that's my problem with ranking services. They need to put more into the film and actual play of these kids and less into "who should up for our camps" and "how does he measure/what is his 40".
Posted on 8/25/13 at 7:46 pm to YStar
The problem with these new combines which give a boost to their ranking is they are based on getting fans excited and bringing in money. So they are set up to make these kids look great and any real variable that could actually truly measure their future success in college is eliminated.
The Openings and Rivals 5 star challenge set up recruiting junkies for the next 6 months. People watch these kids get their value inflated by designing these combines to allow the player to succeed. After it is over the pay sites pump out articles and people pay for them because of the hype from the combine. If they were run like a real camp like at UA many would be exposed, their rating would drop, and the sites would have less targets to pump out info on.
