Biggest thing when it comes to thinner LBs, is can they build onto their frames fast enough to hold off future players? Can they put on 20-30 pounds the right way before someone already that size comes in?
For example, Mekhi Brown is 15 pounds heavier than Evans and Miller and is a year younger. When he comes in, he's already closer to starting size. Can they get a comfortable enough lead outside of just being in the defense?
The guys who are already 240-250 pounds when they come in are going to grow too though. You don't just suddenly stop growing on your 18th birthday. I think that if we ever want to see a Demarcus Ware or Jason Taylor on our defense, it's going to be a kid who arrived on campus weighing 215 pounds soaking wet with long, skinny arms.

Hello all. Are there any rules that need to be followed for the recruiting thread? I look forward to joining the discussion. Roll Tide

We've seen a lot of guys that come in as OLBs, at 6-4 240, and end up moving to the defensive line within 2-3 years. Ed Stinson, and soon to be Xzavier Dickson, among them.

Upshaw and Harris weren't real long but both were examples of leaner, faster OLBs we've recruited in the past. Hubbard was/is long and lean

I think just the same with adding weight, you can limit what is put on. Not everyone with the frame to be 300 pounds will be 300 pounds. Adrian Hubbard's frame could keep going, but he's only 250 after playing 2012 at 240 and arriving at 230.
One of the same reasons I'm not quick to push Ronnie Clark to a LB spot. He doesn't have to be 240, you don't have pile weight on everyone. The DBs don't lift like the lineman, the lineman don't run like the DBs.

No rules really. Don't blatantly post premium content. And for the record this thread is a lot more than just recruiting talk. This is the hub of the Bama board. Welcome.

Expected better from this place.
I also think it's in poor taste and doesn't belong.

Poor taste? Seriously? It's a funny gif. Nothing more.
Don't bring your emotions regarding that situation into it.

Why did Clark not make it to Tuscaloosa?

He may have gotten wind of my new found obsession with Rashaan Evans, but that hasn't been confirmed as of yet.

I think having the want to plays apart in those roles by the staff. If Stinson was fine at at OLB, they weight probably wouldn't have been put on him. If Dickson was doing well enough, he probably wouldn't have been pushed out by Devall. Neither were situation where they simply outgrew the position. I see the precedent trying to be formed, but I don't see it as that simple.
Weight isn't gonna determine how good you are, but it could play into how early you play. And it could cause a Dickson situation where the player is replaced by the more talented one(though Devall is 250 himself now)...

When was that planned trip with the family?
Posted on 7/29/13 at 5:20 pm to crimsonian
Andrew Bone says Stephen Roberts is visiting this weekend.
Posted on 7/29/13 at 5:21 pm to GumpinAintEasy
Sorry, that's Tuesday instead of this weekend
Posted on 7/29/13 at 5:21 pm to crimsonian
There was never a specific date, but they were supposedly trying for sometime this week/before the month was over.
ETA: A lot of guys are coming in tomorrow, so it could be then.
