I was able to go to my gym and workout and shop a couple of good stores in the same shopping center for new gym shoes and a new cloth shower curtain liner this morning.
We've enjoyed going back to the gym too. Also enjoyed going to the beach at Oak Mountain today. Was refreshing to see no one wearing a mask and only practicing what is normal social distancing at a beach.

That's cool. This is the first time I've gone to any such parks since this all started. I'm not sure what Oak Mountain was doing before, but my folks rented a cabin out there last Monday and it was pretty busy, and this afternoon (we went back) the beach was packed. All ages, races, ethnicities, etc. No masks. Was awesome.

A real positive is that quite a few people have rediscovered that there is life outside of a tablet or phone screen.
Try to find a bicycle, kayak, or any other outdoor recreational item in a retail store right now. It's all but impossible.

This has been the best part of the whole ordeal. We have been everyday either on a trail or in the water since it began. We got my daughter a kayak for her 11th birthday in September and she is in it at least 3 days a week now. Two of my boys have been hiking in with me at least once a week to fly fish. A lot of mtn bike trails around here as well we hit a few days a week.
Next month if the border opens were are headed to Canada for a month to camp and enjoy all the activities. Spent two weeks up there last year before heading to Acadia and can not wait to get back.

Yes we did even though my 3yo struggled on it. Short loop but steep.
We camped at Seawall while we were there. My 9yo wants to get a license to train Peregrine Falcon when he turns 12. They had cameras attached to telescopes so he was able to watch them at their nesting area. Even got to see one snag another bird in the air. Pretty impressive to see something going over 200mph glide like that and snatch it up.
Bay of Fundy in Canada was great though. Especially with the tide changes. Where we camped the sea level dropped close to 40ft every time the tide went out. Just north of where we were there was a reverse waterfall when the tides changes. It would drop 53ft and was pretty cool to see. We could walk out almost a mile in the morning at low tide and collect seashells,and sea glass while watching seals and whales.

I think being cooped up with only that to do ended up with people running out of things to do on their devices.

No, but that is the way I feel about it. Living in fear is for losers. Great to see that a great many people agree. It seems beaches are packed everywhere. I'm willing to bet we will not see a jump in COVID deaths from this.

Who is living in fear? I am living the most I have in a long time and enjoying the break.
In regards to lack of common sense that is another story. In regards to deaths not concerned for that as much as another wave/spike and then all the things will be on lock down again.
Either way live life and enjoy while making the best decisions for you.

Tuesday Alabama COVID age group CFR update. Good news is all are down from Friday except the 25-49 group which saw a very slight increase:
<25 years old: ~ 1,940 cases, 0 deaths = 0.00% CFR
25-49 years old: ~ 6,137 cases, 18 deaths = 0.29% CFR
50-64 years old: ~3,656 cases, 91 deaths = 2.49% CFR
65+ years old: ~3,535 cases, 464 deaths = 13.13% CFR
Some noteworthy statistics on deaths through 5/26:
- 573 total deaths to date
- Of the 573, only 25 had no underlying conditions
- Of the 25 with no underlying conditions, 1 was under the age of 50 (48 yrs), and the group had a median age of 72
- Most common underlying conditions are heart disease (65%), diabetes (39%), chronic renal disease (27%), and chronic lung disease (24%)
- Over half (318, or 56%) had more than one underlying condition
- Black Alabamians are overrepresented in the death count (26.8% of population, 43.3% of deaths), while white Alabamians are similarly underrepresented (69.1% of population; 51.1% of deaths)

Tuscaloosa County has had quite a few more cases reported in May than it had in April, but hospitalizations haven't increased at anywhere close to the same rate as cases.

Hospitalizations at DCH have almost doubled in the last five days. Definitely something to monitor and keep an eye on I would say.

Montgomery had over 100 new cases today. We need to figure this shite out before it gets out of hand.
Are these coming from factories? Nursing homes? It can't be from Lowes and store runs because if that were the case, Huntsville would have more cases.
We need to get this under control or I'm afraid our progress will be wiped out

Afraid it’s too late for that, but I hope I’m wrong. Even if this spike in cases the past few days can be attributed to the relaxing of the safer at home restrictions, not sure there’s much of an appetite to re-impose those.
Some of it is increased testing, but the hospitalizations in Tuscaloosa and Montgomery cannot be ignored.

shite! A spike in cases could really throw a monkey wrench into UA's plan to proceed semi-normally in the fall. My daughter has lost enough milestones of her senior year. LSU announced today that rush will be totally online this fall. She will lose her shite if rush is cancelled after everything else has been cancelled. We are preparing for our online Bama Bound session in July. (ugh!)
