The book is out on every team. Being able to do what the book says is another matter. When Bama is healthy, and playing well, very few teams are going to slow down their offense a lot. Basketball is all about matchups, and good execution. For whatever reason, JQ has struggled since the illness. Herb was doing a great job at the point before the injury to his hip (it's apparently lingering longer than I thought it would), but he hasn't finished well the past couple of games. But, if we can get Herb healthy, and JQ back on track, we'll be fine.

Even the last three games, which have been struggles offensively, are better than the basketball we've been watching for years. Perspective.

Win Wednesday night and it's magic number time.

I really we could fill Coleman up to end this season. It would be fun.

Stifling defense sends Texas Tech over Buffalo
Mar 24, 2019

Buffalo's season is over, after a 78-58 loss to third-seeded Texas Tech in a second-round NCAA Tournament game Sunday at BOK Center.

They simply got smothered on the boards, got outpaced in transition and got outmuscled by a bigger and more athletic team.

The Bulls (32–4) finished with a season-low 58 points, despite having three scorers in double figures, and finished 19 for 52 shooting (36.5 percent), which included an uncharacteristic 3-for-10 start to the game. It’s only the fourth time this season the Bulls have shot less than 40 percent from the field.

It’s a startling statistic, coming from a team that entered the game with the Mid-American Conference’s top scoring offense (85.1 points per game) and one of the nation’s top 10 scoring offenses.

What was the main thing that your team wanted to key in on defensively shutting down UB early?

CHRIS BEARD: Transition. You know, they score a lot of points, they get out and spread and shoot the ball well. They have great guards, great overall team. We're keying in on the 3-point shot, mainly, transition, and just one-on-one plays like driving. We tried to keep them out of middle as much as we could, try to make them take tough shots and keep them off the boards. I'm glad we were able to do that for 40 minutes.

This is what Texas Tech does. The Red Raiders out-work opponents on the defensive end, stifling movement, limiting open looks, causing frustration. In Sunday’s NCAA Tournament contest, it turned into an avalanche in which sixth-seeded Buffalo, one of the country’s better offensive teams, couldn’t escape.

If we just split these next 2 we would really have to Alabama Basketball this thing up to not win the SEC

Of the remaining teams that can catch us (Tenn, Fla, LSU, Miz) by just glancing at it, Miz looks to have the easiest schedule. I don't see the other 3 getting to the end with just 1-2 more losses.

Anyone get the remaining SEC schedule SOS?

Winning the SEC would be more than I expected this year.
Pull that off and hopefully get Herb and Bruner back into playing shape for the ncaa tournament. Shack will always come back and plays better after an off night, but we are going to need help from Bruner and Herb to do anything in the big dance.

I think best case scenario is we clinch the SEC with 2 or 3 games left and then We sit Herb and all those banged up

I think you're right and it would be huge to get those guys some rest before tournament play, but we have a couple tough games coming up with LSU and then at Missouri. Assuming we can split those two games, we have a very good chance to lock the league up by the Vanderbilt game. We have by far the easiest remaining schedule of teams in contention, but it does tighten up for the last three games, so I hope it doesn't come down to that.

ETA: Added LSU, but outside of a road game with Georgia and Vanderbilt at home, their conference schedule was pretty back loaded. I think they lose at least 3 or 4 of those games.

Random thoughts: REALLY wanted that OU game for resume' and because frick Oklahoma. But wasn't surprised.

Not sure how the LSU game goes this week, we should win, but we aren't playing well. However, I have no doubt we will get boatraced in CoMo unless we find the team that was running roughshod over the SEC. I'm afraid that team is all on IR.

Mark my words, save this post. I've been watching Bama basketball for too long. When we make the tourney, the committee will give us the worst, most disadvantaged matchup in the hardest bracket they can come up with. They have always hated Alabama basketball and always will. Round 1 will be against the hottest mid-major in the country or against someone like Dayton: someone with an axe to grind. Probably in the Far West bracket where Gonzaga is the #1 seed and we'll be the #5 seed and we will have to face them in the Sweet Sixteen. Or same with Midwest and Baylor, but make no mistake, they will give us a draw that will make you go WTF?

So when the site shut down yesterday I was looking around for a new home and on rivals someone posted that Bruner was suppose to return for OU but had a setback. Anyone heard any thing about this?

Don't know about any setbacks or rumors, but Chadaristic posted before the game that Bruner was able to shoot, but he wasn't close to being able to play, needing 2-3 more weeks.

Assuming all final tests are passed, the plan is to have Bruner back and suited up for this Saturday’s game against OU. Obviously going to be a limited role, but the speed of his recovery has been amazing to watch. Will probably be another week or two before he’s back at full strength, but any quality minutes he can provide right now are crucial.

This was the post and dude is a Gold Member so he must be legit

Well, Bruner had a bit of a setback. They’re playing it safe now and saying a couple more weeks. Sorry for getting the hopes up yesterday, but Oats and the training staff must have seen something they didn’t like. As for travel plans for OU, there actually was a bit of a pause today because OU was having some COVID protocol related issues… but it looks like the game is good to go and the team will be flying in later this afternoon.

This is his update

Interesting. That's a hell of a setback, going from basically game-ready to needing weeks.

Hope he's okay, and that they're just being extremely cautious.

Eh, idk. I'm calling BS on that unless he has inside info from the actual medical staff. Oats has never said he would be back that soon and we've also heard nothing relative to a setback.

Alabama's Jordan Bruner (knee) is not expected to return for another 2-4 weeks, per Nate Oats. Averages 7.8 PPG and 5.3 RPG. A key piece for the Crimson Tide at center.

I think thats probably accurate. Oats sounded like he thought Bruner would be back in a limited capacity by Mizzou, now it’s changed to 3 or more weeks. Something had to have happened.

I thought the time frame of the mizzou game was too soon anyway, that wouldve been three weeks since the injury and they originally said 4 to 6 weeks. From other players who have had that injury/surgery that I know of its usually more like 6 to 8 weeks before they return.
