He's been consistently inconsistent his entire career at Alabama

I did not see the game but Charlie Potter tweeted Shack missed 6 layups.
But this is a recurring problem for us for a decade it seems, players and Coaches don't matter. Only good ones I remember were Obasahon,Releford and Sexton.,even Kira wasn't automatic. Herb has improved everything except making layups..

We have not been great finishing at the rim on drives. What would be the wisdom of trying to stop and pull up on shorter jumpers rather than drive all the way to the basket? Perhaps we would get more unmolested shots? A 6-8 ft jumper can’t be that less high percentage than lay ups for us right now.

Uncontested 6-8 footers are harder to get than layups and they don’t result in trips to the line. We just need to get better at finishing

I still have a T-shirt with a plaid A
It’s old, but still wear it on game days.

A lot of those were contested shots. He also made made two great contested plays at the rim. He missed a couple that he probably shouldn’t have and one breakaway layup towards the end of the game that we really needed, but there were too many close misses to count from the entire team.
My point is, to just say that Shack missed 6 layups is extremely disingenuous.

So, you’re excluding a lottery pick in Kira Lewis and Alabama’s longest tenured NBA player in Jamychal Green? I think it’s safe to assume you’re missing some others as well. There’s a handful of players on this year’s team alone that are more talented than Obasohan and Releford.

After looking at a lot of their other stuff I was excited for their Alabama stuff but it really dissapointed me. I dunno, probably just me.
No it’s not just you. A lot of the teams have better stuff on there than us on there- Virginia Tech, Colorado State, even Tulane and Rice.
I got a UA crew neck from them, but I think their designs for us are mediocre and available elsewhere.

I think he was strictly referring to the abilities of the guys at finishing at the rim, not the overall talent of the players.

Man, we really should have sat Herb yesterday. I think we should have sat everyone banged up.

That’s inexcusable

Quiet a few teams right now are mentally/physically drained. Our guys are very beat up as they courageously take the court every 3 or 4 days.
Back in the day, SEC teams would get 1 week off, recharging the mind, healing up from the physical toll of the current season. As I was watching the Kentucky game last Tuesday night, it was crossing my mind our guys desperately need that week off. I was happy we gutted that game out, thinking ahead, wishing somehow yesterday's game wouldn't happen. I agree that Herb, in particular, could use a full week off.

Shackelford cannot miss 6 layup in a game.
I know that's enough to get benched for that. If my coach saw that, he would've pulled him out of the game after 3rd missed layup or tell him "No more layups. just settle for shot or shoot 3..."

This is why yesterday wasn't a big deal from a resumé perspective. We just need to figure some shite out on offense in a hurry. We have the defense to make a tournament run, but our offense's lack of high level individual playmakers is starting to get exposed here lately.

Ya, Oklahoma is a playing really good basketball right now.
Not too worried about yesterday's game. Got a clear idea of some stuff to work on but still in great shape for a great season.

We need to be more in control on our drives - early season we were just relying on collapse and dish to the corner type plays, but teams are staying in those passing lanes now

We actually moved up in KenPom to #8.
I know we loss but I think Yesterday was a win for us. The SEC beating the Big12 will go a long way perception wise when it comes time to seed teams

Yep - definitely going to have to change mindset and approach on those drives with the understanding of how the defense is playing us and how best to take advantage.
We made some adjustments yesterday, which was good to see. The misses in the 2nd half was mostly just misses. Not nearly as many ugly possessions as the last 2 games and the first 10 minutes.
