Did Avery just baby the crap out of them? I love Avery....and I loved him as a player, back to his GS days with Sprewell and Webber, but was he that soft on the guys?

Charlie Potter confirmed on BOL there weren’t any racial slurs involved. It apparently was something that happened in the WKU game that led to the one game suspension.

Feel like he's a lot more animated this year from the coaching box. One of the time outs after we made a 3 last night, he looked livid and was yelling at Shack.

Yeah exactly. Other than people holding the fact that he was a 5* recruit who wasn't some 1 and done monster against him, I really have never understood the obsession a lot of our fans have with trying to portray Petty as Shannon Hale 2.0.
Exactly. It's weird.
People love a scapegoat.

I will be glad when someone reliable actually says something about it.
Right now Twitter is flooded with the racial slur, fist fight rumor, and Josh Moon, an actual al.com reporter, sent out a cryptic Tweet saying that things are about to get messy for Bama Basketball.

I vaguely remember seeing Petty looking pissed about something later in that game. If I get bored tonight I'll go back and see if I can find anything.

Not exactly. Perception is reality. Do you honestly think Petty should have waited until the 11th hour to pull his name from the draft? It's not like he is consistently lighting up the stat sheet. His best year, by far, was last year...... but people continue to act like he's Steph Curry or Klay Thompson. It's just not reality....has nothing to do with being a scapegoat. Just tired of seeing airballs and bricks from a "great shooter".

I went off the grid for about 24 hours and it looks shite went off the rails.
Not buying the racial slur rumors at all and i'm also very skeptical of any physical confrontation involving Oats rumors as well.
Maybe Petty and Rojas got into it - I could buy that.
Maybe there was even a weed situation - I could buy that.

Whatever the truth is, i'm sure Trevor Releford is "really looking forward to it".

No, perception is perception and the people perceiving often believe it's reality.

I think he should have waited until he was sure of what the situation was. Do you think you know what communication was happening between Oats and Petty?

Why? Do you think he's missing on purpose? What would you like him to do differently besides not miss? He hustles. He's our second best defender. He rebounds. Should he bench himself?

I just believe that he bought into the "one and done" hype and he has never really let that go. I guess it's not all his fault. He was treated like a god in HSV and that is what created the attitude. I guess it is just frustrating how low the basketball IQ is on this team. I watch other teams and they know how to pass, dribble, and shoot. Heck, we have Herb running point most of the time. They also know how to move off the ball and get open and then drill the shot. Our team looks like they have never played together on offense. The only constants over the last 4 years of pathetic offensive play are Petty, Reese, and Herb. You tell me what is wrong. Herb and Reese aren't holding out for the draft...... He's a streaky shooter at best. No offense, btw, I see what you are saying about his hustle on defense and I agree.

Considering the NBA refused to make a definitive call on a combine and team workouts one way or another, yes.

I have literally never seen anyone make either of those comparisons.

He is probably tired of shooting them. That has nothing to do with effort either.

I guess I should mute the announcers because they rave about what a great shooter he is, every game. LOL. That is where that comment came from. I realize it has nothing to do with effort so I relent on that. However, something he did teed off Oats and/or Rojas.

Yes, he was a great shooter last year, which is likely what they’ve been referring to so early in the season.
They’ve also said he’s in a slump recently, which is correct.

agreed. Just frustrating. I hope they can turn this around before it gets away from them.

He shot 44% from 3 last year, and he shot a lot of them.
It’s not rocket science as to why announcers act like he’s a great shooter. He was a great shooter last year.
He has his issues (ball handling probably the most obvious one), and he hasn’t gotten off to a good start this year. Although he was awful at the beginning of last year too - maybe even worse than this year.

I understand all that. In 43 years of playing and watching basketball, I've never seen anyone hit 8 or 10 threes in a game and then disappear for the next 4 or 5 games. It's more like 4 or 5 threes a game consistently. I guess that is why he only averaged 14 points a game last season. 10 a game the previous 2 seasons. He's just so streaky....LOL

He was relatively consistent last year, but I don’t know that it’s that shocking that a guy who mostly scores from the perimeter would be a little more inconsistent than somebody that gets more points in the paint.
Anyway, this story is really just a wait and see. If he plays versus Ole Miss, then the more extreme rumors are obviously horseshite.
If he comes back, I expect him to start making shots.
But I think the real key is Bruner (and how many minutes he plays) and what sort of improvement guys like Primo and Ellis make over the course of the year.

Gary deserves more minutes as well, imo
