A tech bubble bursting isn’t going to send Ellison and those like him to the poor house. Once you have a certain level of wealth there are opportunities on both sides of a speculative bubble.

We don't need the 5s to stretch the defense. We need them to protect the rim and catch lobs.

I'm starting to think this is the biggest key to the system. A 4 who is a multi-level scorer and also does a bunch of dirty work (guard multiple positions, rebound at a high level, and help protect the rim). Our most efficient KenPom teams under Oats all had those guys: 1) #4, 2022-23 (Clowney/Gurley); 2) #6, 2024-25 (Nelson/Dioubate); 3) #9, 2020-21 (Herb Jones)

Note that during those years, the guys who spent the most time at the 5 were Bediako, Pringle, Omoruyi, Bruner, and Rojas. Not exactly a superstar list. The 5 spot just doesn't require an NBA prospect. Catch lobs, rebound, affect the rim.

I tend to agree. I really don't think we need bigs who are particularly dynamic on offense. As long as they're able to set screens, catch lobs, and make putbacks our offense will be fine. Having wings who you trust to dribble and shoot is what makes the engine go.

According to those in media the NIL market has jumped 65% this year….which has fricked us.

Byrne doing a terrible job NIL fundraising.

Gotta be creative.Alabama Football has been the most watch collegiate sports team the last 20 years. Some big company will pay enough $$ to put their Logo on the 25yd line at BDS and on our Football and basketball jerseys if Byrne would let them. Enough to buy us a Football and Basketball team

Install a $10 NIL fee to every football ticket sold. That’s 100,000 x 10….which is $1M a home game x 7 home games which is $7M a year extra

Gross. I’d rather the sport die

This would be fine. Also Wisconsin sells an NiL beer at its games. $2 from every purchase goes directly to NiL. That would be a solid idea.

We need a down and dirty 5, Two of them, one can be a fill in. Two guys that say, " don't come in my paint and I'll hangout longer than 3 seconds".

The 4 needs to be tough and can score.

I fear we’re at the point where we hope Aden “Pineapple Express” Holloway is allowed back on the team, everyone who hasn’t already bounced stays on board, at least one of our freshmen signees hits hard, Allen + Jemison take a big sophomore leap, and we can cobble a frontcourt together with value pickups.

Y'all need to calm down. Oats wouldn't have signed an extension without knowing we'd have better NIL. We'll get good players.

Could be that UA and Oats had bad data or advisement on what the money needed to look like in 2026-27. I really think it is possible we don’t sign a single starter caliber player out of the portal. That is not killer but it hinges on the remaining roster sticking, taking year 2 jumps, and the recruiting class producing at least one difference maker.

Just because we offered him more money doesn't mean we offered him enough more to keep up with the increase in the "market" this offseason. If we increase payroll by 50%, which is a lot, and the cost of doing business increases by 65% we are actually worse off despite a 50% increase in payroll.

I absolutely agree with you. A lot of these agents were already floating these deals before the season was over. Hell, rumors hit about Sherrell like a month ago. We knew where the market was headed, guarantee you we are going above $15million this year.

15m is probably about what we were spending last year in today dollars. We signed no starters out of the portal last year*. Philon's money probably going to keep Allen out of the draft. So I think I'm likely right that we aren't signing starters out of the portal.

*Well maybe TBB could be considered one but by the end of the year he was timesharing with Jemison.

Miller hit a clutch as three and had a strong finish on a find from Ball down the stretch. I think they're going to get it done unless Herroball.
