That's no big deal for you. But Byrne better not forget about it.

I was thinking the same thing. Would be nice to get some Herb level success out of him as well.

Not as athletic as Herb from the videos I've seen, but seems like he'd be a nice prospect for us still.

From the articles I've read on him so far though, it doesn't look like we're pressing as hard as others for him though. Maybe means we're in good shape with Jarace Walker? One can hope!

After helping to lead Brad Beal Elite to the Peach Jam championship game against Team Final, Class of 2022 combo guard Nick Smith Jr. is taking a break for a while.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound combo guard from North Little Rock (AR) High School has recently added offers from Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida State, while Duke and Maryland have been in touch.

“I haven’t been going in deep on my recruitment, just little talks and stuff,” Smith said by phone.

He will take an official to Arkansas Sept. 12 and Oklahoma Sept. 18.

He broke down a few of his suitors.

Oklahoma: “Coach [Porter] Moser is a great dude. I’ve been talking to him ever since recruitment first started because he was at Loyola. I’ve known DP [David Patrick] since he was at Arkansas. he wants me to come in and be the focal point of the program when I get there. Just coming in, bing me at the end of the day.”

Arkansas: “Same goes with Arkansas. I’ve been knowing Eric [Musselman] since he came to the program, so that’s pretty much the same thing. They want me to come in and be the focal point of the program.”

Kentucky: “Coach Cal [John Calipari] was calling me a lot, texting me a lot. He feels like I can be a great combo guard. Playing with Kentucky, you’re going to play with other great players. That’s just how it is at Kentucky. He feels like I can get to the league playing there and stuff and just going from there.”

Of the Kentucky offer last month, he said, “It’s great to get any offer. It’s a blessing to get recruited by any school and Kentucky was one of the schools i was looking at. It’s an honor, but at the end of the day it’s an honor to be recruited by any school.”

Alabama: “I liked the visit. It’s the same thing. They want me to come in and have the ball in my hands from day one. “

He has already taken official visits to Alabama (June 1-3), Auburn (June 4-5), Georgetown (June 11-13) and Kansas (June 20).

“All the schools are pretty much the same,” he said, “Just trying to see what best fits me with the culture and stuff.”

Smith averaged 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists as a junior at Sylvan Hills, which went 24-4 and won the Arkansas 5A-Central Conference regular-season conference title. He transferred to North Little Rock in July.

As for what skillset he will bring to college, he said, “Whatever the coach needs me to. I try to win as many games as I can. I feel like I’m a really good teammate, I can be a leader. I can basically do whatever the coach needs me to do. i can do it all.

“I just have to pick the right school and the right fit.”

Yeah, but we'll have to beat a strong arse offer and with the NCAA riding off into the sunset, that's hard to compete with.

People keep misinterpreting what Will Wade said, and I'm fricking sick of it. He's a good honest man. Everyone wants to say he's been cheating and paying players, and that's just bullshite. Y'all apparently can't figure out something so damn simple. He didn't make him a strong arse... offer. He made him a strong... arse offer. How many coaches would go so far to make sure a student athlete's basic needs are met? Only Will Wade.

Five-star rising senior Nick Smith Jr. tells @Stockrisers he will drop his list of eight programs tomorrow. Coming off a Peach Jam finals appearance and a Kentucky offer, this will be the next step in the @BradBealElite stars recruitment.

Smith Jr. will take visits in Sept.

It's the deadest sports month of the year. I'm just glad to have the Olympics to hard to go wrong with women's heptathlon.

Seems like we did a lot of waiting around in last year’s recruiting cycle and that worked out pretty well. When you’re recruiting higher profile players, these things certainly drag out a little longer… especially when these kids have $1M G League contracts or NIL to consider now in addition to offers from UK, UNC, Duke, etc.

That being said, a commitment would be really nice at this point. The dominos always seem to start falling after somebody gets on board. We didn’t have a commit until the end of September last year, then got Holt and JD in a two week stretch. I think we’re in the running for enough really good players that I’m not particularly worried about the class as a whole. I think we’ll end up with another great group of kids.

It’s going to be a big class, presumably with some transfer additions as well. I think things will really start to heat up in a month or so. We’ll start getting actual commitments from these guys instead of top 10/8/4 lists.

Agree. We are after really top players that in the past we had little chance of signing. I don't think Oats is going to spend a scholarship on a "bird in the hand" right now with the transfer portal as it is. We will sign the best high school guys we can in the fall, then hit the portal in the spring.
