The only issue is I feel those teams were actually more talented than us last year. This year we are so much more talented. Nelson played horrible defense for most of the night and took a an atrocious three early in the shot clock that helped Purdue. The other issue is Sears defense. I understand he was frustrated offensively but he has to pick it up. With him being a shorter guard he has to make up for it with effort on the defensive end. I also feel it’s best that we move him to an off ball role due to him slowing the ball down so much. We need penetration and the ball needs to be sprayed to shooters.

It’s hard to overstate how bad Jarin Stevenson has been for Alabama

6-19 from the field, 0-13 in four games thus far. Not good enough.

Lineup likely to be used from the next game

starter
Philon
Sears
Trelly
Nelson
Cliff

bench
Aden
Sears
Reid
Mo D
Sherrell

out of the rotation

Jarin

Wonder why Sherrell didn’t play more?

Oats will give Stevenson's minute to Sherrell.

My guess is he’s a defensive liability against a good post player

4 for Purdue reminded of that 40 year old looking dude from SDSU that whooped our arse 2 years ago.

I’m looking forward to seeing his matchup with Johni.

We luckily get them in Birmingham.

It was painful watching him do the same move to Grant. Big Cliff held his own against him well. Our issue was slowing the ball down and playing their game. I hope the coaches see the spark that Philon adds and allow him to be the facilitator. Sears is a great three point shooter but his drive game will hurt us in games like that because of his indecisiveness.

It's always going to be hard to beat a team that only turns the ball over 3 times the entire 40 minute game. I felt like we played exceptional as far as ball security on the road and we still had 8 turnovers. Put a team at home and have them only have 3 turnovers and it would be tough to beat just about any decent major program. Have to praise them for that level, that's tough to do against air for 40 minutes..

This is why we should have stuck with Sherrill. Yeah he struggled at the beginning but he has the frame/weight to eventually learn.

We saw it last year from Grant…he can’t defend any great post player.(except Tolu Smith)

Cliff did well against him but we need to keep developing Sherrell in case Cliff gets in foul trouble like last night.

Does anyone know where to find player +/- for each game? Someone had access to it for this article.

" Omoruyi was the only Tide player in the positive in +/- at +11. That means in the 18 minutes Omoruyi was on the bench, Alabama was outscored by 19 points"

Dude. It's a really, really long season. And they are mixing in 3 new freshman and 2 transfers. This isn't college football. These losses don't matter right now and actually make the team better. Be ready for more of them. Maybe Illinois, maybe North Carolina, Houston and Creighton.

They will be good when it matters in March. I would argue they don't even have their 2nd best player in Youngblood and won't have him until mid to late December.

It will be ok. Give it a minute.

I know it is early and only time will tell, but there is the real possibility that the combination extra weight training to get stronger and expending more energy on defense may be what are hurting Sears' shooting. I'm sure he's getting more defensive pressure after all the publicity but that may not be the whole reason, and free throws aren't defended.

100 percent. You can see the flashes already. Guys just have to settle in their roles. We actually are at a strategic disadvantage early on because we don’t know exactly who our “dudes” are yet. You’ve got Sears and Nelson, but who else is someone we can turn to on both ends of the floor? Philon looks like he might be, Cliff and Wrightsell too. But Purdue came into the season knowing Smith, Loyer, and Kaufman-Renn were going to account for 70% of their points on any given night. Their “gelling” curve is much shorter than ours, but so is their ceiling.

There is zero reason to be melting about a 9 point loss @ Purdue when we're still figuring out rotations, the shots aren't falling for Sears, Stevenson is ice cold right now, and we don't have Youngblood yet. This was not a schedule designed with any intentions of going undefeated.

Everyone is railing about Jarin Stevenson, but much more disappointing and concerning from Friday long term is Oats deciding Aidan Sherrell was only worth 3 minutes when TKR goes for 26 points in the low post.

Stevenson's shots are going to fall. They haven't been bad shots. He has had several go halfway down and pop out. He just needs to see a few go in. Him being being 0-13 from 3pt through 4 games in November doesn't effect our ceiling January-March whatsoever. But Sherrell being unplayable most certainly does.
