2024 DeBoer is 2005 Meyer?

Posting some negativity, so I wanted to chew on a positive take...
I remember after seeing Florida just get hammered by a Mike Shula led Alabama team thinking that Urban Meyer may be in above his head. They looked a little unprepared for the physicality of SEC football. Really struggled on offense because Alabama didn't have to respect the run game all that much. Chris Leak was not the right quarterback for this offense but he was the best quarterback in their locker room.
The big thing for 2005 Florida is they had clunkers @Alabama, @LSU, and @South Carolina but they did get a big win over a pretty solid SEC champion UGA team in Jacksonville, beat their in-state rival in the last week of the season, and won their bowl game.
Right now, DeBoer and his staff seem in above their heads but I've seen a guy come from out West and look like he wasn't going to cut it in the Deep South. He won a national title the next season.
I can't really see that right now. This team looks pitiful but I'm sure Florida fans felt the same after seeing Urban Meyer in his first real SEC road game.

Thx for the positivity. Hopefully we get good Urban and not the bad Urban.

2004 Florida went 7-5
I don’t know why people keep comparing this to 10-3 UGA and Kirby and worse record teams. We have a loaded fricking cupboard

We still have a very small sample. Give DeBoer sometime and see where he is at.
As a fan base, that’s the best we can do.

Yeah I remember everyone was shitting on Urban in 2005. I even thought WTF was Florida thinking?
And then....
I'm willing to give Deboer a chance and think everyone should as well. If we had even a part retarded QB, we'd be undefeated right now and bitching about the defense nonstop.

We lost like 40+ guys to the portal and the draft.

Ron Zook recruited better than saban.

We lost 26, the roster is at 85 including the recruiting class
We had our usual turnover pre retirement and then 5-6 guys after the retirement.
We do not have a gutted team anywhere besides a more youthful secondary at corner

Do we have a Tim Tebow coming in next year?

We have guys starting on this team who would never have played a meaningful snap on Saban's championship teams.

Is the good Urban the one that recruited and excused gangster arse behavior like Aaron Hernandez, or is that the bad Urban?

You mean scraps from a team that was a miracle play away from being embarrassed by a godawful Auburn team (worse than this year's Vandy), blew a 24-6 lead against a 4 win Arkansas team, struggled with a bad Aggy team and put on a comically bad performance against South Florida...

We also got at least 9 solid guys from the portal.
6 starters counting the kicker.

Yall ever downvote a post, read the post again and think, "I actually agree with that", and then upvote it? Nah me neither

I am unimpressed thus far with DeBoer against the SEC but most every coach gets his clock cleaned his first year. They just aren't prepared for how intense it is. how little the margin is of victory vs defeat. If he's a good coach he's going to grow into it. I'm also not convinced this staff is everything he wants. We might see a few staff changes after the season that take us closer to where we want to be. He's already stated that the offense we are running is not the offense he wants to run. It's just pieces of it.

quote:this is just a dumb take at this stage. Players are doing what they've been doing for the last 3-5 years, playing undisciplined, and they are continuing to do it under deboer just like they did under Saban. It's just what it is now, and it made Saban leave the game. The fact that it's combined with milroe being on the cold side of his hot and cold game and we took a couple losses we shouldn't have. We have seen this team be both dominant and a disaster, in the same game. They still have the dominant potential, maybe it comes out the second half of the season. Maybe they switch to Simpson and it provides a stabling influence. Who knows.
DeBoer and his staff seem in above their heads
