If Alabama can't outbid Ole Miss, then Alabama has a major problem.

Some people have been trying to kill the sport for years. Started with the NFL.

Alabama shouldn't give a corner who might start in 2025 a 7-figure salary tbh.

So Potter's message on BOL states that Mbakwe wants to be guaranteed a starting job and also it seems like Ole Miss is offering to let him play both ways.

I don't think I've missed more than a small handful of live snaps of Alabama football over the last 15 or so years until this season. I missed all of the Mizzou game to go to Birmingham for errands and a nice dinner with my wife. I just left our den and played a video game in my office the entire second half of the Oklahoma game. I knew that game was over at halftime even before Milroe pissed and shite himself live on television in the 2nd half. We've had some frustrating and disappointing teams even under Saban but I'd always watch those games to the bitter end and often be rewarded for sticking around. However, something is changing with my relationship to Alabama football. When it ain't fun to watch, I'm out these days. I think that has something to do with how transactional the players are. If they're going to be out if things aren't how they want it, I'll do the same. I dunno...something to chew on...

Hmmm....I posted something very similar the other day, and suggested that others are probably close to joining me on this bandwagon. Was summarily questioned and ridiculed for having a low post count and therefore, no credibility(?)

Well, it appears the room is already getting crowded. Folks, this is what the NFL looks like without tampering rules and a salary cap. The Wild wild west on steroids. It just ain't fun anymore. Absolutely no loyalyty from players, so why should I feel loyal to them, or the "amateur" football team at UA?

I've already answered that question.

I doubt it’s a seven figure NIL deal. I think the playtime and both ways is what’s doing it

It's not about outbidding another team, this is NFL style cap and roster management.

You don't overpay for unknowns or for folks who may not be a scheme fit. You have to let some go so that you can keep the specific guys you need. Or sometimes, another team values a player more than you do and they head out the door.

If Ole Miss wants him so bad that they are willing to do things that Bama isn't, so be it.

Devonta Smith already signed with Notre Dame. He just entered the portal a couple of days ago.

You were questioned and ridiculed because you posted that stupid shite in the basketball thread.

I posted it there because I was responding to a contextual post in that forum. Just as easily could have posted it here today, dontcha' think? And if it's such "stupid shite" why are others essentially agreeing with it? Have you even considered the implications for UA/collegiate athletics if I'm right?

They need to bring back having to sit out a year if you transfer. The schools need some protections. I just think it is dumb to invest resources into recruiting and developing a kit, and then they can just up and leave at a moments notice with no consequences.

Reasonable minds can differ on this, but personally I really don't see much difference between the stunt DeVondre Campbell pulled the other day and all these guys who quit the team mid-season to preserve a redshirt or essentially hold out for more money or just because they are upset that they aren't playing. So why does one guy get universally blasted for quitting and all these college kids who do the same shite are treated like they are flat out entitled to do it? I really don't get it.

It's like everyone decided that the answer to a couple of decades of coaches, administrators, pundits, and TV executives getting filthy rich off of the sport while the players had limited agency is to swing the pendulum all the way in the other direction. There has to be an effort to get an anti-trust exemption and put together a CBA to stop the annual roster shuffle. It has quickly gotten to be too much.

These guys are in the golden age of college athletics. All of the benefits plus some of being an employee with none of the burden.
