Sir Frodo was spotting the other team 7 points per game. (Just compared to a Steele ran defense- who knows what that margin would be if Bama had an elite D Coordinator)
Coaching matters.
All we can do is hope somebody writes a book one day that explains:
A- Why did we hire him
B- How did he stay at Bama 5 years
His LB corp was always the worst unit on the squad also... totally lost, slow, in the wrong gaps... All the evidence was there that Pecker was not up to an Alabama/Nick Saban standard. It boggles the mind

Hat tip to this dude - did a hell of a job this year

Give this year's defense to 2019-2022 Alabama and we win at least one more title. Saban's loyalty to one of the worst assistants he's ever had will never make sense.

This defense was just much more timely than any of Goldings. When we have needed a stop we have always gotten it. Goldings never did and that’s the biggest difference to me.

Just wished we didn't give up so many random scores so our stats were reflective of how good we actually are. But much prefer it be this way than the opposite

The Auburn and Texas Games were the only 2 I thought we played poorly on defense. And you can really blame the Texas game on the offense.
Bad 1st half’s against Tenn and LSU but we always adjusted and got it fixed

I was really disappointed when we lost Armstrong to UF (like a day after we hired him), but Bala has been an extremely pleasant surprise. Very glad to have him at Bama!

Steele has also been hands-on in coaching the ILBs with Bala, like Saban is with CBs alongside T-Rob. He deserves credit.

Second half against Arkansas was pretty bad too.

Eye test didn't lie here. Massive improvement over last year

As long as Steele doesn't die, I doubt he will go anywhere either,

Don't need the stats.
Drastic improvement. The multiple stops on short yardage downs alone gave me a hard on this year.
Something I felt like might not even be possible anymore in modern "offensive biased" football.

In 2022, Alabama could never get a timely play when they needed it against good competition.
A clutch strip sack here, a big 3rd down rush stop there...that's how you shave almost a touchdown off your point per game average against good competition.

I thought you were gonna say

Isnt that also on CNS also. I dont see him as a non interfering head coach

A simple example of how bad Golding was.
Henry To'oTo'o has been starting at ILB for the Texans most of the year playing very good football for a rookie. This after looking completely lost at UA being position coached by Golding.

Their other starting MLB is Christian Harris too. Who also looked lost under Golding half the time.

I've disliked plenty of players and coaches over the years, and even more rarely would I break out the word "hate," but... I'm with you.
I hated the hire on day 1
I hated the way he looked and overall vibe I got from him
I hated his mugshot after his DUI
I hated the play of his Linebackers
I hated how soft our defense became
I hated how that softness on defense crept over onto the offense
I hated KNOWING that he was an awful DC and position coach yet continued to be employed and taking a big dump right in the middle of the greatest dynasty of all time
I hated having to wonder why he was still around every year.
I hated everything about him, and if I could change any 1 thing about the run we've been on it would probably be losing Jeremy Pruitt to Tenn instead of him studying under Saban for as long as it took to get the HC job one day, and preventing the peter dingleberry era from ever taking place.
