Starting in 2024, we going to 12 team playoffs! I expect the SEC to put at minimum 2-3 teams in every year and win the NC most years. We need more than a 4 team playoff this year.
2024-25
Quarterfinals
Fiesta, Peach, Rose, Sugar, Cotton, Orange, Rose, Sugar
Semifinals
Cotton, Orange
Fiesta, Peach
National Championship

No we don't (in fact we've never needed more than a 4 team playoff). No one in the top 4 is beating Georgia, much less the top 12.
You guys are celebrating a 12 team playoff now but you won't be when we lose one or two key players in a meaningless first or second round blowout game against some bullshite team like Minnesota that doesn't belong on the field with our second string, much less in a playoff. I'm still goddamn pissed about losing Metchie and Williams last year. Cincinnati was yet another useless fricking game that did more harm than good for us.

I am all for doing away with the SEC championship game. The SEC is hurting its teams by making them play in a championship game. The SEC is supposed to help their teams get to the playoffs. Not beat each other up and give a team an extra loss that only gives the playoff committee a reason to leave them out. The biggest reason they have the game is for conference money..............And I'd disagree on just 4 teams. I think there are some teams left out that could take USC or TCU.

I would have been more supportive with it if they required the P5 champion from each conference to be ranked in the top 12 in the final poll. This automatic spot is BS. This year you could see a 3 loss #24 UNC or a 4 loss unranked Purdue get in if they win their CCG.
Also their BS about making more exciting for fans would have meant more if the first round and at least the qtr finals were played at home for the higher seed. More money for the local economy. I mean if you win your conference and finish in the top four you get a bye but never a game at home. I would rather see every game played local and only the NC played at a neutral site. It would add far more value for the regular season with every game meaning something.
Also will be interesting as the NC game will get push out late in January after underclassman have to declare for the draft.

I would go one further and say that the head to head needs to be conditioned for SEC div champions
We can clearly see that LSU is not the better team in SEC W this year

You mean like A&M beat Alabama last year, or Alabama dominated a better UGA team in the title game last year?
eta- also, you seem angry. It reminds me of the Tennessee alters

I fricking hate the CFP. BCS had it right. (Yes I know bama would have missed out on 2017 under bcs, but also probably would have won 2014, and maybe '21)

So the quarterfinals are not at the higher seeds home field/stadium? Our fanbase already has a hard time affording to go to these playoff games every year now they want to potentially expect there to be enough fans to afford 3 rounds of neutral site games?
What a missed opportunity to bring extra money to some of these campuses and surrounding areas

Here is the thing, how can people like the NFL playoffs or playoffs in almost any other sport, and hate the college football playoffs? Makes no sense.

Think I'm gonna be done with college football. The bcs was better than the 4 team playoff, and the 4 team playoff is better than a 12 team mess. Transfer portal free agency, paying players, and now this bullshite

I don't know about other people, but I don't like playoffs in general. Even if I did, I liked the bowl system and the uniqueness it bestowed on cfb.

In every sport that has playoffs, the playoffs expand to include so many teams that the regular season is pointless. College basketball is obviously the worst about this, where the structure results in the regular season getting almost no attention, even from many fans of the sport. But the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB all have nearly half the league make the playoff. In the NFL, you see teams finish 9-7 and win the Super Bowl. When you have large playoffs, it effectively turns the regular season into preseason. What made college football special was that every single game was crucial. The 4 team playoff already diluted that. A 12 team playoff kills it. You're going to see teams that start 10-0 just sit their starters through rivalry week and especially conference championship week. The excitement of late season upsets is totally gone, because every major team has like 3 built in mulligans.
Ratings and attendance will continue to decline in the regular season, as they have for years now. ESPN's solution will be a 24 team playoff. Then 64.

quarterfinal games need to be on campus

What made CFB unique and special was just how important the regular season is week in and week out. You had many regional rivalries and some of them were so big that a successful season was based upon that result. It was known that the top 2 teams would make the title game and everyone else would duke it out in a bowl game and some of those games being an accomplishment in itself (Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, etc.)
Now what we have is a new CFB system that guts everything that makes the game special to make school presidents and TV executives that much richer. The regular season is essentially meaningless for most top schools now and the W/L results in those big games are now nullified by "we'll make the playoff anyways." The BCS was replaced with the CFP because the train of thought was actually finding the two best teams to represent the title game. ESPN and others have decided to market the playoff in such a way that if you don't make it then nothing else matters.
With a now expanded playoff to 12 teams, the comparison to a pro league makes absolutely no sense outside of the physical bracket. The talent disparity is much wider compared to any other league and probably every other collegiate league. We don't need 12 teams to decide whose best. That's just a narrative being pushed for more neutral site games where the money gets passed around and "fairness" is what it's all about pushed by people who are told what to write. Fans are stuck paying even more money for games and travel, students getting pushed into a pro league length schedule, and pretty soon it'll just become a development league for the NFL but with some collegiate helmet stickers.
So yeah congrats.

This as think of our game with LSU this year. If there were 12 teams going Alabama would be in the playoffs and LSU when UGA beats them they have nothing other than a banner for winning the west. Someone said it on the radio the other day that once a P5 team gets their 10th win they are probably in the the 12.

I would have been happy with 8 but we got 12. I remember when people said a playoff would destroy the game and it hasn't. Noe we are going to 12 and it will be fine. And yes, Bama would have been in this year. The playoffs at DivII works out fine and people love it.....I am not going to give every scenario, but the more we tweak it, the better it could become. I could see the SECCG being eliminated. It only hurts the teams. Its just another chance for players to get hurt going into the playoffs, which is more important.
