It's a zero sum game. Every dollar spent on basketball, baseball, soccer, ect is a dollar not spent on football. I'm fine with mediocrity in other sports to keep the football death star rolling.
I knew we wouldn't fire Avery. It would of cost over ten million dollars. Basketball was never going to get that kind of investment. The only reason Auburn invested in basketball is they knew they couldn't compete in football while Saban is here. So they used basketball as a consolation prize for the donors.

Resignation or being hired away is honestly all you can hope for right now.
The plain dull truth is, his contract is was too good and it's on Bill Battle, not Byrne. Firing Johnson right now would require, in addition to the mad payout, hiring another coach who would wield a comparable or even greater salary and we haven't become one of the wealthier schools in college athletics by making stupid decisions.
We're in this for one more year, and you have a choice. Do you pitch a 365 day fit, or hope against hope, like any fan of a middling team, that next year is when it all finally clicks?
I can promise, if Johnson does start the rebound in 2020, there's going to be an unprecedented amount of crow to be eaten on the Bama fan forums.

It is this ridiculous mindset that created the problem we are in.
Some year, in the next 15 years, the football team will go 7-5. Where will you turn then? The rest of our sports are crap because we won’t touch them. So what do we do? Dump even more money in to football because that must be the answer, and the cycle starts again.

Do you not realize he's a horrible coach? We struggle in bounding the ball in pressure situations. We play 11 guys in a half of basketball (who does that?!?). We consistently lose close games in the last 2 minutes. He has yet to develop a D1 player from good to great.
We consistently have 7-10 games a season with a lack of effort and get slaughtered by a weaker opponent (especially on the road).
What makes you think next year will be better?

seems to me that he is the only SEC coach who managed a postseason, national tournament number one seed, so there is that.

Why? If that somehow happens he will have changed and improved.
Calling a shitty product a shitty product will still have been totally and 100% correct on our part.

We can build an elite basketball program with elite facilities and elite fan support. It won't be easy but can and should happen. We need to make a commitment to facilities and fire Avery. We already pay in the top 10 money in coaching salary so go on ahead and pay just a little more if you have to in order to get a winner. It sucks to suck in basketball especially when our two rivals are winning titles.

Just WTF does football need that it doesn’t already have?
We don’t have to spend football money to make basketball good. We’re just pissing away the resources it has already been given with damn fool buyouts in contracts made by people that don’t know basketball from their a-hole. So now that we’ve got a competent AD to make a good hire, we’re going to handcuff him with the stupidity of previous administration? That’s a real good way to run off a very good AD.
Some of you need to get your head out of your arse and realize that football can coexist with competitive programs in other sports without detracting from daddy football. As a matter of fact, they have a synergistic effect and they actually help each other bring in athletes.
Spend the damn money. Spend it now to correct a mistake or you can spend it later when the program is further down, there is no interest or fan support and will be harder and more expensive to revive. That’s the choice we’re facing. Because another season of #BuckleUp and Coleman will be half empty for every home game.

It’s very much possible to be good at multiple sports

I don't see the golf teams, gymnastics teams, softball teams rolling over because football.
I don't see students tanking History because they have an "A" in Calculus.
I don't see homeowners letting their house go to shite, yet have a manicured yard.
Being good at something, to me, means you can be good at many things.
I hate this "it's relative to football" talk. It's not. In fact, they could all help each other, not hurt each other.
