The NBA Dunk Contest has been garbage for years and last night did nothing to prove that fact wrong. On Sunday, many former NBA players, including Hall of Famer Paul Pierce, took to social media to describe the situation...

It's quite easy to see why there's no interest anymore. See the following:
1. 397 combined total points in the all-star game.
2. G league players competing in the dunk contest. Long gone are the days of MJ/Dominique/Vince Carter/etc.
3. Adding WNBA players to the 3-point shoot-out.

How about cancelling the NBA?

If they want to cancel something , it should be the All Star game.

they just need to make it a once every 3 or even 5 year event. Let people forget and get nostalgic, build up the hype

Sounds like you need to have watched it to understand.

They don't need to get rid of it, but just invite people that really put on a show at dunking the ball. Like they're all kinds of people out there that are not NBA players, but they are much better at dunking then the NBA players. Those are the people you bring in, just change the rules so that it's now open to anyone or anybody to come and dunk and put on a show because right now it's terrible.

If the players want to do it who cares. No one is forced to have to watch it.

As a singular participant event, why not expand it to teams of two? Contestants take turns feeding the ball to their teammate to dunk. It would up the difficulty and creativity in the contest. Lobs from back court for a 360 dunk or an alley oop from mid court as a guy leaps a car could be quite entertaining.

Maybe if the best players would compete, it would be worth watching.

It’s hard because we’ve seen all the amazing dunks. There’s probably 60 guys in the league that can run and jump from the 3pt line and dunk like MJ did. There’s dudes who do 360 dunks like Vince Carter in game. Back then that was all amazing for its time, It’s just we’ve become so numb to these freak athletes.

Free throw line bro. The ATC would have to get involved if these dudes were jumping from the 3 point line.

The worst part is the white dude doesn’t even play in the NBA. He plays in the G league.

maybe instead of canceling it, some of the bigger name players participate again, instead of lesser known players. part of what made it fin in years past, was watching Jordan, Carter and others. I remember Spud Webb dunking and it blowing a younger me away.

I feel this way about all all-star games. They’ve become boring and pointless.

So whitey wins the dunk contest two years in a row and now it’s time to shut it down! Sounds about right.
