LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier spoke with reporters at the NFL Combine this week and revealed that his core injury happened just two days into fall camp, right before the 2025 season.

The injury limited Nussmeier all season and eventually sidelined him:

quote:

"It occurred in fall camp, day two of practice," Nussmeier explained. "How much did it affect me? I think it was pretty evident."

"I really wasn't able to throw the football. I had stabbing pain in my abdomen every time I tried to throw the football. We weren't able to figure out exactly what it was; it was frustrating. It wasn't LSU's fault or the doctors' fault. They did a great job of taking care of me."

"It was just a rare deal, we didn't figure out what it really was until like 2 months ago. I had about nine days to prepare for the Senior Bowl.

"I made a lot of progress over the last month. Feel much more like myself, which has been exciting."

One video trying to salvage draft stock and everyone on board again lol. Truth probably somewhere around here just isn’t really THAT good.

He shut himself down at the end of the season because even he became aware of how horrible the film that he was putting out was.

I'm done dogging this guy but a statement of fact is in order. He was out of shape coming out of the offseason and got hurt. He was probably pushing his conditioning to catch up and created the injury

And you base this on exactly what kind of information?

I admire his toughness to play especially if it’s effective. The sad part is the backup QB, wasn’t good enough to spell Nuss for a period of time for him to heal and become effective. In SEC you need a very good back up QB Or you have a season Like LSU just had, mediocre

That injury effected decision making???

Whatever, lol. You’re a Liability Nussmeier, unless you throw in a Bubble. Great arm, no pocket awareness, and made of Peanut Brittle.

He was one of the best QBs in the country avoiding the sack before this past season so I'm not sure where you get he has no pocket awareness.

Blueghost is right. As much as people want to put this guy up on a pedestal, he was not fundamentally sound. I am assuming what he was referring to is his inability to read the pocket, he rarely stepped up in the pocket and made many bad throws off his back foot. He also had very questionable decision making, and we all know it. LSU had horrible coaching and one of the worst offensive lines, so I don't totally blame the guy. I do think he is using his "injury" now to make excuses for the NFL scouts.

Obviously he was hurt

8th grade Garrett had a stronger arm than 5th year senior Garrett. Not being hyperbolic either

How does a core injury cause someone to refuse to step up into the pocket to avoid pressure??

Probably had to play to get paid per his NIL contract. This is what the game is now. All about the money

Brian Kelly was one big POS. How Woodward thought it was a good idea to hire him should be a permanent stain on his career as an AD. Screw Woodward as well.

Sooooo what the hell was it? We still don’t know. He just says they didn’t know but found out what it was 2 months ago. So what was it? Will we ever know?

The biggest takeaway from this is that BK is a POS liar. A blind man could see he was hurt, but BK chose to keep running him out there rather than getting him the help he needed to recover. It ultimately led to his firing. If Coach had sidelined Nuss until healthy, BK may have gotten a pass and another year
