Buccaneers Rookie, ex-LSU DE Jack Pyburn Could Be Granted 5th-Year Of Eligibility

Former LSU defensive end Jack Pyburn could have an interesting decision to make regarding his football future.

Pyburn is among 16 former college football players who were granted a temporary restraining order against the NCAA by a Louisiana judge on Wednesday, potentially clearing the way for them to receive a fifth year of eligibility and return to college football this season.

Pyburn is currently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft. The former Tiger has impressed during the preseason, recording two sacks in Tampa Bay's recent game against the New York Jets.

Pyburn spent his first three college seasons at Florida before transferring to LSU for the 2025 season, where he started 11 games for the Tigers.

It remains to be seen whether Pyburn will pursue a return to college football or continue competing for a roster spot with the Buccaneers.

I think LSU has spent about as much as they can on players.
Im sure Ohio State can find a spot for him though

Just because he had a good preseason doesn’t mean he will make the team, especially as an UFA. With a 53 man roster and a handful of practice spots, lots of excellent players don’t make it in the NFL. Being that football is a developmental game, coupled with NIL, he has options. Having said that, I wish we could keep the judges out of it.

What a nightmare for NFL GMs. You think you have your practice squad set and you release players. They sign somewhere else. Then one of your practice squad guys decides to go back to school

I doubt he will return. He will make the roster at TB. We do need more depth on the edge. LK may make him an $offer$. Time will tell. Heck of a player, high motor.

Sick of these local judges making decisions that obviously aren’t based on law. Him and every other judge that proves they can’t make actual law weighted judgments should be removed.

I wonder if he can wait to see if he makes the team and not practice squad. If you make the team, I think you have to stay. But the money would be better in college.

Is he even interested. Although the judge issued the order for 16 players. How did his name get put on the list? Who put his name there?
