Report: Jack Pyburn Plans To Return To LSU If He's Not On An NFL Roster By Sept. 1

LSU could be getting another familiar face back on its roster ahead of the 2026 season.

Former Tigers edge rusher Jack Pyburn plans to return to LSU if he is not on an NFL roster by Sept. 1, according to court records obtained by The Advocate.

Pyburn is currently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft. He recorded two sacks in the preseason game against the Jets.

The 6-5, 258-pounder from Jacksonville, Fla., spent his first three college seasons at Florida before transferring to LSU for the 2025 season, where he started 11 games for the Tigers.

Pyburn's potential return comes amid the ongoing debate over players attempting to regain college eligibility after pursuing opportunities in the NFL.

The situation will now hinge on whether Pyburn lands on an NFL roster before the Sept. 1 deadline.

Hasn't Pyburn done well enough to make the Tampa Bay roster? I thought he had played pretty well in one or two games. I hope this all get sorted out soon.

So here’s where people start to have an issue. The 5 for 5 ruling came down on June 23. If all the players had said on June 25th or whatever hey, we dont think this is fair and would like to be grandfathered I think it’s a different public opinion. Not one player said a word. Now when they get cut it’s all of a sudden brought up. Here is a guy openly telling the world I will go get paid to play college ball if I get cut but only if I get cut but I’m going to try the NFL first.
