LSU landed a big-time commitment on Monday morning from elite 2027 quarterback Peyton Houston.

Houston, a 5-10, 200-pound passer from Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, La., picked the Tigers over offers from Oklahoma, Southern Cal, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and many others.

Houston is the No. 11-ranked quarterback in the nation and the No. 6 player in Louisiana, per the 247Sports Composite. Per ESPN:
quote:

As things stand, Houston cannot sign with the Tigers until Dec. 2026. A productive passer with polished mechanics and a quick release, Houston completed 69.6% of his passes for 4,480 yards with 38 touchdowns to six interceptions last fall, adding 690 yards and seven scores on the ground. He highlighted his sophomore season at Evangel Christian last October when he set a National Federation of High Schools single-game record with 817 passing yards in a 77-76 overtime defeat against local rivals Captain Shreve High School.

Houston's slate of campus visits this summer included stops at Clemson, Oklahoma, Texas and USC before the Sooners and LSU separated themselves in his recruitment over the past month.

I'll believe it when he's on campus. These "commitments" mean nothing in the age of NIL.

I'd rather have him liking us for a long time just in case they come with offers. At least he is ours right now.

Name all the top Louisiana recruits who decommitted from LSU since Nick Saban left?

Yeah Jujuan Johnson had 15 thousand yards of offense to his name against the best teams in louisiana and he isnt even a qb anymore at LSU. Facts

JuJuan Johnson numbers were less and against easier 2A competition whereas Evangel plays a 5A schedule. Jujuan was 61% from the field. Houston 70%. Jujuan had 13 INTs. Houston had 6. Most importantly, the look. Houston looks like a highly developed passer. Jujuan looked like a RB playing QB.

Johnson was a passer and runner and never had anything close to the passing numbers in a single season as Houston had.

Peyton is the best QB in this class. Unbelievable stats, 450 yards passing, 75 yards rushing per game vs top level LA competition. Houston just tore up Neville 16 for 23, 70%, 275 passing yards, 12.0 ypa, 1 TD. 75 rushing yards, 5.5 ypc, 1 TD rushing. In just 1 quarter vs West Monroe, Houston went 7 of 9 for 140 yards with 2 TDs. I can't find stats outside that 1 quarter, but that's 16 yards per attempt and 80% completion rate on West Monroe. Wouldn't be surprised if he had 300-400 passing yards on West Monroe

Peyton Houston 2024 stats:
4500 passing yards (nearly 2.5x Nuss or Haven's yards)
70% completion rate (highest of the 3)
38 TDs (highest of the 3)
6 INTs
Over 10 yards per passing attempt (highest of the 3)
700 rushing yards (highest of the 3)
7 yards per carry (highest of the 3)
7 rushing TDs

Let's compare this to little Nuss stats last year:
1900 passing yards
59% completion rate
8.2 yards per attempt
16 TDs

Elijah Haven:
1850 yards
65% completin rate
9.6 ypa
27 TD
430 rushing yards
5.8 ypc

I know that's a brick of text, but comments on TD stories don't let me format it more efficiently. But I wanted LSU fans to know just how elite this guy has done.

He's throwing for 400 yards on top level 5A LA teams. (Neville, West Monroe, Byrd, etc.)
75 rushing yards a game.
70% completion rate.
Over 10 yards per pass attempt.
7 yards per carry.
38 TD to 6 INTs

This is Jayden Daniels 2.0. He is going to be special.

Sounds promising, but you can’t really compare Highschool stats to college stats. Whole different level of competition.

At 5'-10 he's not going be JD, part II, at 6'-4 and able to see over huge SEC linemen. Historically, there has been a strong correlation between height and success at the quarterback position though exceptions like Kyler Murray and Bryce Young have challenged this norm. So maybe he's the next Kyler Murray?

5'10" is a tad short for a qb, no?

It's a plus he's from Louisiana though. He may have more motivation to be a Tiger instead of just wanting a big NIL deal like Underwood.

Why do you think that he won't get any taller?

Kid is only 15. He may have topped out but I doubt it

Will he be the first Evanel QB at LSU since Josh Booty?

5'10 Quarterback?? No doubt he's lighting it up in high school - but how is this going to translate to college?

Wonder what yall said about Bryce Young and Kyler Murray.

Most here are too young to remember Doug Flutie, who was listed at 5'-10 (I've stood next to him. 5'-9 is more like it), won the Heisman and a host of other awards and had a long pro career in the USFL, NFL and CFL.

He is in state. 95% of in-state commits, stay.

Ain't the #1 or #2 QBs for the next couple of season from LA also and leaning LSU?

If you're talking about Elijah Haven I think he's leaning Florida at the moment

Thats awesome, we need him. It's way better to get the commit and try to hold on to him than to not get it and have to try to flip him.

He's not playing QB at LSU at 5'10"

Herb Tyler wasn't that tall, maybe 6'0 and he was a productive LSU QB. Hell Drew was barely 6'0 and he has the best completion rate in history, more 70% completion seasons than anybody and has 5 5,000 yard seasons. So if the player is good like everybody say Pop is, his height shouldn't be an issue.

The $$$$$$$$$$$$$ will start rolling in again before signing day. I will believe it when I see the ink on the paper.

Eh, good for Evangel but might be too small for LSU

You're part of the problem if you think little Nuss and Haven with 1800 yards are better than Houston with 4500 yards because they are 6'3 and he's 5'11 or whatever now, maybe 6'. Not to mention he average significantly more yards per pass attempt, significantly higher completion rate, more touchdowns, more rushing yards, more yards per carry. I'd bet a lot right now he's best of all 2027 QBs we are looking at.
