In a recent interview at a charity golf tournament, Nick Saban lamented how much more important the traditional bowl games used to be. He feels that if bowl games are already being done away with, expanding the playoff is "probably a good thing."...
quote:

“Back in the (day), I was never for expanding the Playoff, because I thought bowl games were really important to the history and tradition of college football,” Saban said. “But now that we have expanded the Playoff and bowl games have taken a less significant role. So I think expanding the Playoff and having as many teams involved as we can without playing too many games for the players, that’s a little bit of concern, is probably a good thing.”

College football is dead. It's minor league system, in all but name.

The number of people around here pandering for upvotes and validation from strangers with the "college football is dead" line is definitely the new trend, unfortunately.

Aka, bama isn’t going to make the playoffs every year now. So we need to expand it to better the chances for bama.

Were you aware that Nick doesn't coach at Bama anymore or are you still convinced he does everything to spite LSU?

If he had to choose I would bet he would CHOOSE to coach at LSU!

Separate the P4 into a new league and call it minor league football, separate the teams from the school in such a way to remove the education part for the players (because we all know they dgaf and pursue useless degrees anyways) and just require a donation percentage of the team to the university, have a draft for the high school players and make them sign contracts

Uh yeah bruh, don't get me wrong, I'll take all the football I can watch during bowl season, but I can see how two 6-6 teams from the midwest only attract viewers from their immediate locales. 16 team playoff here we come!

He used to be against expansion when it meant Alabama wouldn’t automatically get placed into the Final 4 or Final 2 at the end of the season to play for the national title.

College football has been destroyed, and sadly, there's nothing we can do about it. The old saying, "money is the root of all evil" is exactly what is destroying CFB. Players have no team pride and fan support will soon begin to wane because teams are flipping rosters every year, so there's nothing there for fans to cheer for!

Don’t watch then. We won and the sport is better for it.

The whole thing needs to be blown up and rebuilt. From Washington state to FIU, blow up the entire thing and rebuild.

To me, Non-CFP bowl games still hold same meaning as a 2009 Non-BCS Championship games. At end of day, neither is playing for a chance at a Nati. I still enjoyed watching LSU in Texas Bowl.

Now that saban works for the network who makes substantial profits from the playoffs, now he wants to expand them. Shocking turn of events here.

"playing too many games for the players, that’s a little bit of concern"
That's why we need to lift the requirement that football players have to enroll in class. It takes too much time away from preparing for, and recovering from, football games.

I have been saying for decades to use the long established Bowl games as a playoff format. Its a win win for Bowl cities and fans and the NCAA.

All playoff games except the NC game should be played on campus.

That’s kinda what they’re doing. This past year all CFB playoff games were bowl games besides the 1st rd of the playoff and the National Championship Game. The Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and Peach Bowl aka “Chick-fil-a” Bowl were ALL playoff games.
