Alabama 5-Star Freshman Has Been Removed From Team’s Roster

Alabama's five-star freshman defensive lineman Antonio Alfano hasn't been around since early September and it's now been revealed he's been removed from the team's roster, per AL.com...

“I just know that the guy basically quit,” Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said Sept. 18. "He quit going to class. He quit coming here. We tried to encourage him. We tried to help him. We had tried to set up counseling sessions with him to help him every way we could. And all those things are still available to him if he wants them, but he didn’t respond to any of the things. Until he responds, you just have to assume the guy quit.”

Alfano’s father shared some more info back in September.

“Antonio’s grandmother recently fell very ill and is still fighting on life support,” Frankie-Hilda Alfano wrote on Twitter. “He is very close with her. Since this illness took effect, Antonio has taken it very hard. He has not attended classes and practices.”

His name is now in the transfer portal. His father says this about the situation: "The University of Alabama has been extremely supportive and I couldn't ask for better support from them," Frankie-Hilda Alfano wrote. "Yesterday, Antonio asked to be placed in the transfer portal to see what his options are. Although he's in the transfer portal, he still can decide to remain at the University of Alabama. My opinion is that Antonio should stay at the University of Alabama.

Y’all are pretty uninformed on this one. Things are always complicated and sensitive when a sick family member and young adult are involved but from what I understand, he absolutely quit the team, quit school, and just hung out around campus. Saban attempted to reach out for weeks or even longer with every bit of help he could offer and the guy wouldn’t even respond. His family tweeted that they urged him to stay on the team and whatnot but nothing came if that either. It’s complicated and I’m pretty sure y’all are dead wrong on how Saban handled it.

@Jaydeaux, I agree that Saban could have mentioned that, but it’s frustrating when you’re offering support to someone and they cut you off. If that’s what happened, I can understand his frustration.
